What if your greatest strength is actually slowing your business down?
In this episode, Sharon Galluzzo explains why talented entrepreneurs often become trapped by their own expertise. The better you are at solving problems, serving clients, and getting things done, the easier it becomes to compensate for weak systems instead of fixing them. Over time, those temporary solutions create a business that depends entirely on your time, energy, and constant effort.
Sharon explores why patchwork solutions eventually lead to burnout, stalled growth, and the feeling that your business can't move forward without you. She shares practical insights into building stronger business systems, creating consistent client experiences, developing reliable processes, and making intentional decisions that support long-term success instead of short-term survival.
You'll also learn how to identify the areas of your business that rely too heavily on you, why scaling amplifies both strengths and weaknesses, and how systems create the freedom to grow without sacrificing your time and well-being. This episode is a powerful reminder that your next level of success won't come from becoming better at your craft, it will come from building a business that's worthy of your talent.

Profit doesn't happen by chance; it happens by
Sharon Galluzzo:design. Let's dig in. Your expertise may actually be hiding
Sharon Galluzzo:the biggest problem in your business. In fact, the better
Sharon Galluzzo:that you are at your craft, the longer you can unknowingly
Sharon Galluzzo:compensate for a weak business. In fact, the better that you are
Sharon Galluzzo:at your craft, the longer you can unknowingly compensate for a
Sharon Galluzzo:weak business. That's why so many talented entrepreneurs,
Sharon Galluzzo:founders, franchise owners, business owners end up exhausted
Sharon Galluzzo:instead of thriving. So here's what I mean: when you're really,
Sharon Galluzzo:really, really good at what you do, you're you're an artisan, or
Sharon Galluzzo:you're a creative, or you are really good with numbers, or
Sharon Galluzzo:whatever it is that you're really, really good at, you will
Sharon Galluzzo:start a business based on that. You probably have started a
Sharon Galluzzo:business based on that, and your ability to compensate for every
Sharon Galluzzo:little thing because you're so good at what you do, you run and
Sharon Galluzzo:fill gaps along the way without you know using like really good
Sharon Galluzzo:filler. You just use that, you know, cheap stuff that you get
Sharon Galluzzo:at the store that changes color or toothpaste. Sometimes, right?
Sharon Galluzzo:You have a hole in the wall. You can fill it with toothpaste, and
Sharon Galluzzo:you're good to go. When you do that with your business, when
Sharon Galluzzo:you do that without take actually repairing what's
Sharon Galluzzo:broken, and you just sort of fill it in and keep going
Sharon Galluzzo:without having that strength and stability behind the thing that
Sharon Galluzzo:you filled in, you actually will grow a weaker business. And
Sharon Galluzzo:everything that you grow, you you will grow with the
Sharon Galluzzo:foundation that you have. So if you have used you know
Sharon Galluzzo:toothpaste to repair a crack in your in the foundation of your
Sharon Galluzzo:business, eventually it's going to crack again, right? You'll
Sharon Galluzzo:get there. You'll get a little further down the road. However,
Sharon Galluzzo:you will not actually repair the damage, will not actually fill
Sharon Galluzzo:in the gap that's going to sustain your business. Great
Sharon Galluzzo:business owners often save the day because they are so good at
Sharon Galluzzo:what they do, and they solve the customers' problems, and they
Sharon Galluzzo:work longer hours, and they answer every email, and
Sharon Galluzzo:personally make sure that all of their clients are happy. And
Sharon Galluzzo:from the outside, that looks like a good business. That looks
Sharon Galluzzo:like a healthy business. However, what you're doing is
Sharon Galluzzo:actually. just compensating. You're compensating for the weak
Sharon Galluzzo:parts of your business instead of filling in and building that
Sharon Galluzzo:strong foundation. Your your business is running you. You're
Sharon Galluzzo:not running your business, and that's a really easy trap for
Sharon Galluzzo:business owners and founders to fall into is I'll just get it
Sharon Galluzzo:done. It's okay for it to be good enough. Now I I'll stop
Sharon Galluzzo:here and talk about good enough for a second. Good enough and
Sharon Galluzzo:and perfection are are sort of the balls that we juggle as as
Sharon Galluzzo:business owners. We want things to be as perfect as they can be,
Sharon Galluzzo:and that perfectionism can stop us from doing things. However,
Sharon Galluzzo:we also want things to get done, so they don't have to be
Sharon Galluzzo:perfect. So we can strive for excellence, not perfection. And
Sharon Galluzzo:done is better than perfect because perfect will never,
Sharon Galluzzo:never come. So getting things done and moving forward is one
Sharon Galluzzo:of those tools in our tool belt as business owners. However, we
Sharon Galluzzo:really need to recognize we need to take a step back and see
Sharon Galluzzo:where are we using that. You know, done is better than good,
Sharon Galluzzo:or done is better than perfect. It's good enough. It's good
Sharon Galluzzo:enough for now. It's good enough for the moment. However, in the
Sharon Galluzzo:long run, you're actually going to weaken your business as a
Sharon Galluzzo:whole because as you grow and scale, you amplify everything
Sharon Galluzzo:that's underneath the business. So your hard work is eventually
Sharon Galluzzo:going to hit a ceiling. Working harder can create that growth.
Sharon Galluzzo:That's how we grow. That's how we move forward, and that's also
Sharon Galluzzo:how and why we plateau in our businesses. Have you ever felt
Sharon Galluzzo:that where you're like, I just can't move forward. I'm stuck. I
Sharon Galluzzo:can't make more money, or I make more money and it goes right out
Sharon Galluzzo:the door, and I just cannot seem to get ahead. There is-it's
Sharon Galluzzo:almost like there's an invisible ceiling that has me stuck. It's
Sharon Galluzzo:this is the reason. This is most likely the reason because you
Sharon Galluzzo:have been patchworking your your business so that you can keep.
Sharon Galluzzo:Moving forward, but at some point it's going to collapse
Sharon Galluzzo:under its own weight if it doesn't have a strong support.
Sharon Galluzzo:When you are growing, things become more complex. There are
Sharon Galluzzo:more levers to push and balls to toss in the air. Your your your
Sharon Galluzzo:business is going to create by necessity as it grows
Sharon Galluzzo:complexity. You have more customers, more decisions, more
Sharon Galluzzo:interruptions. Talk to me about interruptions someday. We'll
Sharon Galluzzo:tell that story, and I think I have now and again. But I do
Sharon Galluzzo:have a whole big thing about interrupts: more interruptions,
Sharon Galluzzo:more stress, and the very thing that helped you succeed-that
Sharon Galluzzo:can-do attitude-that I'll just put some toothpaste in the crack
Sharon Galluzzo:and keep going. That I'll fix it as I go, and and in that
Sharon Galluzzo:patchwork will actually be the thing that becomes the the
Sharon Galluzzo:millstone around your neck that will hold you down, that will
Sharon Galluzzo:drag you down, and prevent your business from growing. So how?
Sharon Galluzzo:What do we do about that? Like, the answer is we really need to
Sharon Galluzzo:build that strong support in your business that you can rely
Sharon Galluzzo:upon. Whenever and that thing that you're relying upon is not
Sharon Galluzzo:100% you, your effort, your talent, your passion, your
Sharon Galluzzo:enthusiasm, your perseverance-that is part of the
Sharon Galluzzo:equation. And honestly, you can like build your business and do
Sharon Galluzzo:your whole business that way. And you're going to be
Sharon Galluzzo:exhausted. You're going to be worn out. There's going to be
Sharon Galluzzo:nothing left in your cup to pour out because you have poured
Sharon Galluzzo:everything into everything, and as business owners, we need to
Sharon Galluzzo:remember. We need to remember that pillar and the seven
Sharon Galluzzo:pillars of profit, that joy quotient. We need to remember
Sharon Galluzzo:you as the business owner. We need to take care of you. So how
Sharon Galluzzo:do we do that? Which should not all rely on your talent. So the
Sharon Galluzzo:goal isn't to become less good at your craft. Not good. The
Sharon Galluzzo:goal isn't to be less awesome at what you do, the thing that you
Sharon Galluzzo:do. We still want you to be that person. You still need to have
Sharon Galluzzo:that enthusiasm and that love for what you do and that drive.
Sharon Galluzzo:That's what makes your business unique. That's what makes you
Sharon Galluzzo:you, but not at the cost of everything else. So we don't
Sharon Galluzzo:want you to be less good at what you do. We don't want you to be
Sharon Galluzzo:less who you are. It's to build a business that is worthy of the
Sharon Galluzzo:awesome person that you are. It's to build a business that is
Sharon Galluzzo:worthy of your talent, of your craft. It is to build a business
Sharon Galluzzo:that is that is equal to the excellence of who you are, and
Sharon Galluzzo:there are tools that we put in place to do to do that for you.
Sharon Galluzzo:So today we're going to talk about what do you do? What are
Sharon Galluzzo:those systems that you can put in place? Processes, pricing,
Sharon Galluzzo:follow up, financial clarity. There's a whole entire list. I
Sharon Galluzzo:don't have time to go into all of the nitty gritty details, but
Sharon Galluzzo:I will talk about like. But but this is the way we need to talk
Sharon Galluzzo:about your business. Look at your business. One of the best
Sharon Galluzzo:pieces of advice that we ever got when we had our brick and
Sharon Galluzzo:mortar business was to go outside the door, go outside for
Sharon Galluzzo:a few minutes, sort of forget what it looks like, walk back
Sharon Galluzzo:through the front door with the eyes of a customer who has never
Sharon Galluzzo:seen you before, walk in with the eyes of a brand new
Sharon Galluzzo:customer. How does it smell? What does it look like? What's
Sharon Galluzzo:the first thing that you see? Is there clutter somewhere? What
Sharon Galluzzo:what's in their their line of sight? So walking into the to
Sharon Galluzzo:your business that was a physical business. You can do
Sharon Galluzzo:this for your business even if it's not a physical business.
Sharon Galluzzo:What do they see? What do they experience? What is the thing
Sharon Galluzzo:that they are walking into physically or online or
Sharon Galluzzo:metaphorically? However, you work with your customers, is it
Sharon Galluzzo:the same experience every time, or do they come in and the
Sharon Galluzzo:business owner is distracted, and they are not getting the
Sharon Galluzzo:kind of attention and and experience that they had before.
Sharon Galluzzo:One of the key things about putting systems into your
Sharon Galluzzo:business is that it creates consistency.
Sharon Galluzzo:It creates the same experience for your clients every time they
Sharon Galluzzo:work with you, it creates uniformity, a baseline
Sharon Galluzzo:uniformity, and you don't want everyone exactly the same. You
Sharon Galluzzo:want people to have their own personalities, but it creates an
Sharon Galluzzo:experiential conformity across people in your business. So if
Sharon Galluzzo:you have a staff, if you have. People that are interacting with
Sharon Galluzzo:your clients or interacting with you, employees or 1099 folks. If
Sharon Galluzzo:you have someone on your team, you want to have that
Sharon Galluzzo:consistency of experience. So that's what systems and
Sharon Galluzzo:processes put in place for you. Do you have systems to follow up
Sharon Galluzzo:with people. Do you have a plan for what does your pricing look
Sharon Galluzzo:like, and how will you increase prices or decrease prices, or
Sharon Galluzzo:what does that pricing look like, or are you just going
Sharon Galluzzo:today? The price is going to be this, or I have a big bill to
Sharon Galluzzo:pay. I have some piece of equipment that I wanted to buy.
Sharon Galluzzo:Are you going to increase your pricing so that you can cover
Sharon Galluzzo:that piece of equipment? And then, does the pricing stay
Sharon Galluzzo:there? Like being consistent and having a plan and a and a
Sharon Galluzzo:process around these things allow you to be intentional with
Sharon Galluzzo:your decision making and allow you your talent and your
Sharon Galluzzo:expertise to create a greater impact without requiring more of
Sharon Galluzzo:you. See, that's the big thing. When you are good at what you
Sharon Galluzzo:do, and when you can accommodate everything that needs to happen
Sharon Galluzzo:to move your business forward with the strength of your own
Sharon Galluzzo:will, with the the you know perseverance, and I'm going to
Sharon Galluzzo:get this done. And it'll be bubble gum and duct tape. It
Sharon Galluzzo:won't be pretty, but we're going to keep going. Again, as you
Sharon Galluzzo:grow, you will ex those things will get bigger. The duct tape
Sharon Galluzzo:and the bubble gum will start to come off because the because
Sharon Galluzzo:it's growing, so to have a great business, to have a successful
Sharon Galluzzo:business, you need to remember that your business isn't built
Sharon Galluzzo:on your heroic effort. This isn't your heroic journey. This
Sharon Galluzzo:is you can be. It can be. It can be that struggle, but if you
Sharon Galluzzo:want to have a great business that's that does what you want
Sharon Galluzzo:it to do, that meets your level of expertise, that uplifts your
Sharon Galluzzo:craft, you need to have a business that's built not on
Sharon Galluzzo:heroic effort but on intentional design. So, ask yourself one
question:If I disappeared for two weeks from my business, what
question:would stop working immediately? What in your business relies
question:100% on your effort, what in your business will stop
question:completely if you were to go on vacation for two weeks? That is
question:going to answer those and reveal those places in your business
question:where it's depending on you instead of supporting you. So
question:you've already mastered your craft. You are amazing at what
question:you do. People love you. People come to you because of who you
question:are and what you do. But the next level of growth doesn't
question:come from becoming better at what you do. It comes from
question:building a stronger business around what you do, your talent
question:deserves a stronger business. That's what you should be doing
question:next. And don't forget, you can get all of our podcast
question:recordings, all of the gifts from our guests by going to
question:ProfitConnectors Club. That's ProfitConnectors. CLUB. That's
question:our portal for all of our guests and get all of the gifts from
question:them. Thank you for joining us. Remember that what you do makes
question:a difference out there. Go do it. Be amazing. And thank you
question:for listening. I'll catch you next time.
