Don’t Let Time and Money Become Automatic No’s | 004

How do you know when “I don’t have the time” or “I don’t have the money” is a true no, and when it deserves a closer look?

Nancy knows what it feels like to face that question when the stakes are real. During the Great Recession, with her publicity business under pressure and family finances stretched thin, she chose to invest in training that could help her build a more sustainable business model. It was not an easy decision, and she is clear that taking on debt is not something to romanticize. What mattered was recognizing that continuing with what was no longer working carried a cost too.

That experience shaped the way Nancy thinks about both time and money. Sometimes a lack of time is real. Other times, it can be a sign that too much energy is being spent overthinking, second-guessing, tolerating misaligned work, or trying to solve everything alone. The same is true of money. A grounded decision should never come from pressure or fear, but it can be worth asking what staying stuck may be costing in clarity, opportunity, energy, and momentum.

Rather than allowing time or money to become automatic no’s, this episode offers a different approach: turn them into honest questions. The right decision may be yes, no, or not yet, but it should come from truth, discernment, and a clear understanding of the life and business you want to create.

In This Episode Nancy Explores:

  • How time and money become common objections to investing in support
  • What Nancy learned from making a significant business investment during a financially difficult season
  • Why the cost of staying stuck can sometimes outweigh the risk of moving forward
  • How lack of time can point to deeper problems in the way a business is being run
  • Why the right support can create clarity instead of adding more to an already full calendar
  • The financial and non-financial returns that can come from being in the right room
  • Why an empowered decision should never come from pressure, scarcity, or fear

Nancy Juetten:

Welcome to Your Next Magnificent Chapter with Nancy Juetten, the show for accomplished professionals, entrepreneurs, and purpose-driven leaders ready to choose what matters now. I'm your host, Nancy Juetten, a 25-year entrepreneur, mastermind leader, two-time cancer survivor, and champion for permission-free success. Together, we'll explore the wake-up calls, pivots, and inner knowings that help us release what no longer fits and create life and work that feel truer, wiser, and more aligned. Your next chapter starts with what you allow. It's time to turn the page.

Nancy Juetten:

Welcome to Your Next Magnificent Chapter with Nancy Juetten. If you are standing at a threshold and ready to choose what matters now, this is the show for you. Over the last few episodes, I've shared the story behind the show, the framework behind my "Love Your Business, Love Your Life" inner circle, and the importance of choosing the right room. Today, I want to talk about two of the biggest external objections that come up when someone's considering joining a mastermind, investing in mentorship, or saying yes to a higher level of support: time and money. More specifically, I don't have

Nancy Juetten:

the time. I don't have the money. This feels risky. What if I don't make the investment back? What if I say yes and then life gets complicated? What if this is not the right season? If you've had any of these thoughts, I understand. I really do, because I have lived those questions myself. When I left corporate work, I eventually started a boutique publicity agency. For a while, it did really well. I loved helping clients tell their stories, get visible, and secure meaningful media opportunities. I built something I was proud of until the world changed. Remember the Great Recession of

Nancy Juetten:

2008. It was tough for a lot of business owners, and it was certainly tough for me. Clients pulled back, budgets tightened, and what had worked before no longer worked the same way. And I knew I needed to find another way to make my way in the world. I wanted to learn how to do business online. I wanted to leverage my talents and skills in a way that did not require so much custom one-on-one client work all the time. I wanted a more sustainable model, but I did not know the online business landscape. I didn't know the tools, the language, the strategy. I knew I needed training and

Nancy Juetten:

support, and the program I was considering cost more than I had available to invest. At that time, my husband and I were parenting our very young son, and we were limping along, trying to make ends meet. I remember those practical, humbling, real-life decisions. Do we buy new shoes for our son? Do we have enough money for groceries? Can we make the macaroni and cheese stretch for another night? This was not a season of overflowing abundance. It was a season of pressure, worry, and looking at numbers and wondering how we were going to make everything work. We did not have $10,000 sitting

Nancy Juetten:

around to invest in business mentorship, but I also knew something else. I could not move forward without the training. I could not keep doing what was no longer working and expect a different result. So we made a decision. We used a credit card to fund the program, and let me be crystal clear: I am not casually recommending debt. I am not saying everyone should put a program on a credit card. I am not romanticizing financial pressure. I'm simply telling the truth about what happened in my own life. We made the investment because the cost of staying stuck felt greater than the risk of moving

Nancy Juetten:

forward, and once I made that investment, I treated it like it mattered. I put my shoulder to the wheel. I did every assignment. I showed up for every call. I implemented, asked questions, learned, stretched, made mistakes. I kept going. Fall down seven get up eight, and you know what? By the end of that year, I reached the goal. I became a six-figure business owner, not because the program magically did the work for me, not because the mentor waved a wand, not because the credit card recreated the result. I got there because the decision changed how I showed up. The investment created

Nancy Juetten:

the urgency. The support gave me the structure.

Nancy Juetten:

The mentorship helped me see what I could not see on my own, and the stakes were real enough that I was not casual about it. That experience taught me a lot. It taught me what it feels. Feels like to invest when the money is not easy. It taught me what it feels like to ask your family to sacrifice for your business dream. It taught me the weight of a serious yes. It taught me that when a goal matters deeply enough, we often find capacity we didn't know we had. Now let's talk about time, because I don't have time. Often sounds logical, and sometimes it is true. There are seasons when life

Nancy Juetten:

is truly full. Family needs are real. Health issues are real. Caregiving is real. Client deadlines are real. Energy limits are real. But sometimes I don't have time is also a sign that we're spending too much time surviving the current version of our business. We're spending time overthinking, spinning, second guessing, rewriting the same email 10 times, saying yes to the wrong opportunities, tolerating clients, offers, commitments, or business models that no longer fit. We say we do not have time to get support, and then we spend hours and weeks trying to solve problems alone. We say we

Nancy Juetten:

do not have time for a mastermind, but then we lose precious time to isolation, confusion, and decisions made without wise counsel. We say we do not have time to pause and reflect, but then life forces us to pause because we're exhausted. So the better question may not be, "Do I have time? The better question may be, "What is my current way of doing business, costing me in time, energy, money, clarity, health, joy, and opportunity. That is a more honest question. I've seen this with clients and mastermind members again and again. Someone enters the room thinking they do not have

Nancy Juetten:

enough time. Then the right conversation helps them see what needs to be simplified. An offer gets clarified. A no becomes obvious. A yes becomes easier. A referral opens a door. A piece of coffee finally clicks. A partnership comes into view. A decision that had been taking up mental real estate for weeks gets resolved in 20 minutes because the right people are listening, that is the value of the right room. It does not add another thing to an already crowded life. At its best, it helps you remove the things that do not belong there anymore. I have watched members like Mark experience the

Nancy Juetten:

power of warm referrals, strategic advocacy, and community contribution that created real opportunities and measurable momentum. I've watched Lindsay turn participation, collaboration, and aligned visibility into business growth, partnerships, and sales that made the investment feel like a no-brainer. I've watched Diana described the value of warm referrals, wise guidance, trusted advisors, and priceless friendships that far exceeded the tuition. I have watched members step into collaborations, refine their messaging, launch new offers, gain visibility, and receive support during seasons

Nancy Juetten:

when life did not go according to plan. And what I love most is that the results are not only financial. Yes, referrals matter, sales matter, opportunities matter, revenue matters. We are all business owners, after all. But there are also other returns that are harder to quantify and deeply valuable. Things like confidence, clarity, courage, discernment to make the right decisions, more white space on your calendar to breathe and appreciate all that's good in your life and your business, more meaningful relationships, more trust in your own timing, more support when life gets hard. More people

Nancy Juetten:

who know what you are building and can help others find their way to you. All of this matters. Now let's talk directly about money. When someone says, "I don't have the money, I never want to bulldoze past that. Money matters. Cash flow matters. Timing matters. Discernment matters. No one should invest in a room, a program, a mastermind, or mentorship simply because they feel pressured, manipulated, or afraid of missing out. That is not how I want people entering my world. The right yes feels grounded, maybe a little stretchy, maybe a little brave, but not coerced, not panicked, not

Nancy Juetten:

shame-driven, not like you've been cornered into proving how committed you are. That said, I also know that sometimes I don't have the money is not the whole sentence. Sometimes the. Fuller sentences.

Nancy Juetten:

I don't yet trust that I can create the return. I'm afraid I'll invest and not follow through. I've invested before and been disappointed. I'm not sure I belong in a room like this. I'm worried I'll be asked to grow in ways that feel uncomfortable. I'm not sure I can let myself receive this level of support. I don't know whether this is truly worth making a priority. These are honest concerns, and they deserve honest reflection, because the decision is not just can I afford this. The decision is also can I afford to keep doing business the way I'm doing it now? Can I afford to stay

Nancy Juetten:

isolated? Can I afford to keep second guessing? Can I afford to keep saying yes to misaligned opportunities? Can I afford to keep postponing the life and business I actually want? Can I afford to keep spending years trying to figure out alone what the right room might help me see sooner. Sometimes the cost of not investing is invisible because no invoice arrives. There is no bill that says three more years of confusion, 12 more months of underpriced offers, six missed opportunities because your message was unclear, a launch that never happened because you did not want to bother people, a

Nancy Juetten:

collaboration you did not pursue because you did not have the confidence, a business model that kept paying you but quietly drained your life course. But those costs are real, and for many accomplished people, the bigger risk is not investing in the wrong thing. The bigger risk is staying too long in a version of success that no longer fits. This is where short-term and long-term thinking matter. Short-term thinking says this feels like a lot of money. This takes time on my calendar. I'm already busy. I'll think about it later, but long-term thinking asks: What will my

Nancy Juetten:

business and life look like in a year if nothing changes? What will it cost me to keep doing this alone? What decisions could I make faster with trusted support? What referrals, partnerships, or opportunities might open if I were in the right room. What would it mean to have people who understand my business, my values, my goals, and my life showing up for me consistently? What would it feel like to love my business and my life? That question changes the conversation because this is not about chasing arbitrary revenue goals. It's not about building a seven-figure empire if that's not what

Nancy Juetten:

you want. It's not about performing success for people on the internet. It's about creating a business and life that feel worthy of the season you are in right now. For some people, the right next step is not joining a mastermind. Maybe the right next step is downloading the journal. Maybe it's listening to a few more episodes. Maybe it's having an honest conversation with your spouse, partner, or trusted advisor. Maybe it's looking at your calendar and asking what needs to go. Maybe it's reviewing your revenue and asking what you actually want your business to support. Maybe it's noticing

Nancy Juetten:

where your head, heart, and gut all seem to be pointing. For others, the right next step may be applying, not because you have every detail figured out, but because you have not because you have unlimited time, but because the money is meaningless, but because you recognize the right room may be the support structure your next chapter requires, so here is how I invite you to make an empowered decision. Do not decide from fear. Do not decide from scarcity. Do not decide from pressure. Do not decide from the fantasy that someone else will do the work for you. Decide from truth. Ask yourself:

Nancy Juetten:

Do I want to keep doing this alone? Do I want to be in a room where people tell the truth? Do I want to be challenged and supported by accomplished peers? Do I want to contribute as much as I receive? Do I want a business that funds a life I actually want to live? Do I trust myself to show up? Do I trust that the right relationships can change what is possible? And do I feel called to choose what matters now? If the answer is yes, the next step is simple. Go to beyourownwizard.com/application, and that link is in the show notes. Tell me a bit about yourself and your business.

Nancy Juetten:

Share what you're creating and what you're navigating, and what kind of support you're looking for now. From there, we can determine which of my two mastermind communities may be the best fit for you, and if it feels aligned, we can schedule a conversation. And if you're not ready to apply, but this episode has stirred something in you, download the next magnificent journal at the link you'll find in the show notes. Let that be your first step toward telling the truth about what really matters to you right now. You've heard me share my own story over these last few episodes. You've heard me

Nancy Juetten:

talk about the right room, the right support, the standards of giving and receiving, and the power of choosing a business and life that fits who you are now. My invitation is this: Do not let time and money become automatic no's. Let them become honest questions, questions worthy of your next magnificent chapter, because time will pass either way, money will be spent either way, energy will be invested somewhere. The only question is whether those resources are being invested in the life and work you truly want to create. Your next magnificent chapter is straight ahead. Trust your head,

Nancy Juetten:

your heart, your gut. Choose wisely. Choose bravely. Choose what matters now. This is Nancy Juetten signing off for now. Welcome to Your Next Magnificent Chapter. We'll see you on the next episode.
