Are You Building Goodwill, or Discounting Your Value?

There’s a big difference between generosity that builds your value and generosity that quietly tears it down.

I learned this lesson the hard way. When you give discounts, extras, or freebies because you’re afraid someone might say no, you’re not just lowering the price. You’re teaching people what they can expect from you. And trust me, once you start giving yourself away, people rarely stop asking.

I want you to think about goodwill differently. Picture a goodwill bank account. People make deposits through effort, trust, loyalty, referrals, or reciprocity. Then, when it makes sense, you can choose to make a withdrawal for them. The key word is choose.

I’ll show you why goodwill needs clear limits, a budget, and criteria. I’ll also explain why your ability to say no makes your yes far more valuable.

This applies far beyond business. It shows up in your career, your relationships, your parenting, and every place where you’re tempted to overextend yourself.

Your job isn’t to stop being generous. It’s to stop discounting yourself.

Key Takeaways:

· Recognize when generosity is coming from confidence versus fear.

· Create boundaries that let you give without draining yourself.

· Know when an extra effort strengthens a relationship instead of weakening it.

· Protect the value of your time, money, energy, and expertise.

· Build the confidence to say no without defending or explaining yourself.

About Rebecca:

In 2008, I blew up my life in spectacular fashion. I left a cult, got divorced, and for a time, lost even the few people I had leaned on. I thought greener grasses awaited me. I was wrong. Despite building a wildly successful digital marketing business, remarrying and growing my family to four kids, I felt nothing but dread each morning.

Then came what I now call Epiphany Town. It was that electric moment when I stopped defining my life by what happened to me and began building on purpose. That phase lit me up in a way I had never felt. Now I devote every ounce of my energy to guiding others through their own version of Epiphany Town. I help them find the barriers that are actually holding them back, finally let go of self-sabotaging stories, and leap into a life that is meaningful and deeply fulfilling.

I believe each of us has a story to tell, a gift to offer, and a life worth waking up for. Whether your goal is to impact one person or a million, I am here to help you see your place, claim your voice, and live your life on your terms.
