Zachary Bernard:people build multiple streams of income and accelerate their path
Zachary Bernard:to real, lasting wealth. Known world about it as the
Zachary Bernard:Millionaire Maker, Laurel spent over two decades helping 1000s
Zachary Bernard:of people shift out from the traditional like employee
Zachary Bernard:mindset and into building income-generating assets. She's
Zachary Bernard:the best-selling author of several books, including The
Zachary Bernard:Millionaire Maker, and has built her reputation on a simple but
Zachary Bernard:powerful philosophy. Wealth isn't about one big break. It's
Zachary Bernard:about building a repeatable cycle of income, assets, and a
Zachary Bernard:team around you that keeps the cycle growing. Laurel, it's
Zachary Bernard:great having you on the show. Welcome aboard. Thank
Loral Langemeier:you. Thanks, Zach. It's great to be here
Loral Langemeier:today.
Zachary Bernard:Well, really appreciate you jumping on the
Zachary Bernard:show, and I'll tell you, we've had a good amount of guests from
Zachary Bernard:like every background that you could think of, but building
Zachary Bernard:wealth is one that's like always present as like the back burner.
Zachary Bernard:It's not like something that's talked about like is is a main
Zachary Bernard:focus. I'm really excited for this episode because I think
Zachary Bernard:it's going to bring a different perspective. But as this is a
Zachary Bernard:business entrepreneurship podcast, one of the things I
Zachary Bernard:always like to ask to any guests that come on is if you had to
Zachary Bernard:like restart your company or maybe even like your career from
Zachary Bernard:scratch, knowing everything that you know today. What's maybe the
Zachary Bernard:one thing that you would do differently that you feel some
Zachary Bernard:people get wrong?
Loral Langemeier:Oh wow, what did would I do differently?
Loral Langemeier:Start earlier, get a team faster. Say start earlier and
Loral Langemeier:get a team. So I started the journey of learning about wealth
Loral Langemeier:building at 17 when I got the book Think and Grow Rich. I was
Loral Langemeier:actually at a Canadian event. Dennis Whately, you know, run to
Loral Langemeier:the front of the room in those eras where I get a book, and so
Loral Langemeier:I was like, oh my gosh! So I ran in front of the room, got Think
Loral Langemeier:and Grow Rich, and was like, Oh my gosh! People could actually
Loral Langemeier:have a very different perspective and life and
Loral Langemeier:thinking about wealth, and it's still at 21. I hired Bob Proctor
Loral Langemeier:as my first like official $25,000 mentor that I couldn't
Loral Langemeier:afford in college, right? So I would say you got to go faster.
Loral Langemeier:So I just I did I was still in the what I call the traditional.
Loral Langemeier:I think that's and I know it still persists. Is it's like
Loral Langemeier:I'll get there, but it's not like you said urgent. Like
Loral Langemeier:wealth buildings for like when you're older or later. It's like
Loral Langemeier:no, I mean what I knew in my 20s, but I didn't execute until
Loral Langemeier:my 30s. I was a millionaire at 34. I would have like executed
Loral Langemeier:faster, hired more team faster. No, you can afford it. Like it
Loral Langemeier:all works out.
Zachary Bernard:Yeah, like reinvesting yourself faster. I
Zachary Bernard:mean, it kind of looks like you did that still pretty fast. And
Zachary Bernard:yet, at 17, you got a book, and then at 21, you're paying Bob
Zachary Bernard:here. So I mean, I think you did it correctly, but you wish maybe
Zachary Bernard:you had done that faster. Yeah. I mean, it's always about
Zachary Bernard:faster, more volume, more efforts. I love dots, so cool.
Zachary Bernard:And like one of the things that I'd love for you to like walk us
Zachary Bernard:through a bit is, I mean, you've obviously helped 1000s of
Zachary Bernard:people, as I mentioned earlier. But when someone like comes to
Zachary Bernard:you wanting to like, hey, like Laurel, I want to build wealth.
Zachary Bernard:Like, where do I start? Like, what does that progress actually
Zachary Bernard:look like? How do you take someone from where they are to
Zachary Bernard:actually building some income-generating assets.
Loral Langemeier:Yep, yep. And I wrote it all here. I'm going
Loral Langemeier:to give everybody a book of my Millionaire Maker. Last year was
Loral Langemeier:my 25th anniversary, so it's now version two with 40 more
Loral Langemeier:families in the back. So yeah, 47 families to kind of compare
Loral Langemeier:your progress to. But the journey starts with an initial
Loral Langemeier:assessment. I call it a gap analysis of where are you and
Loral Langemeier:what do you want that identifies you know because some people
Loral Langemeier:their start is they have a lot of lazy assets they have a 401k
Loral Langemeier:that's not performing RSP in Canada so they either have you
Loral Langemeier:know real estate that's not performing so do they start
Loral Langemeier:there do they start with corporate structure to reduce
Loral Langemeier:their taxes or like you said do they start with that cash
Loral Langemeier:machine to go generate new income, so it's usually one of
Loral Langemeier:those categories we we address first. I always make sure the
Loral Langemeier:foundation on tax, corporate structure, trusts like they're
Loral Langemeier:solid because why build a bunch of wealth on a you know house of
Loral Langemeier:sand as they call it, which most people have. So while our teams
Loral Langemeier:are actually doing that work, we are either one of two ways:
Loral Langemeier:where they're helping them come up with money rules and a
Loral Langemeier:diversity plan for their assets, or they're doing their income.
Loral Langemeier:And if they do income, like they'll get back to their
Loral Langemeier:assets, but they don't have enough income to even buy proper
Loral Langemeier:assets. So you know you got to generate income to then use that
Loral Langemeier:active income to go buy passive assets. That's what I call the
Loral Langemeier:wealth cycle. What's interesting is how many people have, and I
Loral Langemeier:hate the word ignorance, so I must use to say no knowledge or
Loral Langemeier:awareness. Like sometimes, like I have a chant. Let's call it
Loral Langemeier:askloral.com. People ask all the questions, but a primary theme,
Loral Langemeier:Zach, is I just want to have passive income. I have a job,
Loral Langemeier:but I want an extra five to 10,000. Just what kind of
Loral Langemeier:business could I do just to make me five or 10? I'm thinking, I
Loral Langemeier:would love that business if I didn't have to do anything.
Loral Langemeier:Somebody passively would just pay me. So the lack of
Loral Langemeier:understanding about what active and passive is, because I don't
Loral Langemeier:think passive is a thing. I think passive is a bunch of
Loral Langemeier:bullshit. I mean, it's just it's it's not a thing. There's
Loral Langemeier:nothing passive. Passive means you're doing nothing. So while
Loral Langemeier:you do nothing, you think laying on the couch someone's going to
Loral Langemeier:just pay you. So I call it packtive. It's a word that
Loral Langemeier:you'll read in the Millionaire Maker for those who get it. And
Loral Langemeier:so even like like I'm in a big syndicate in Kansas in big
Loral Langemeier:apartment. So, but I go to quarterly shareholder meetings.
Loral Langemeier:I'm still like getting the accounts and that like I'm not
Loral Langemeier:just doing nothing. So the people who think that passive is
Loral Langemeier:a thing, I'm just gonna. I always like to myth that that
Loral Langemeier:doesn't happen. So it just depends on where people are.
Loral Langemeier:Because my theme is, I'm gonna meet you where you are, take you
Loral Langemeier:where you want to go. Most people, I'd say the majority
Loral Langemeier:people need to learn to make their own money. If I had a
Loral Langemeier:theme across all nations, because I've taught all over the
Loral Langemeier:world, except for Antarctica, they need to learn to make money
Loral Langemeier:outside of a job, and entrepreneurialism is not
Loral Langemeier:taught, and it's not taught properly. I think I don't know
Loral Langemeier:how you feel about it, Zach, and you're a lot younger than I am,
Loral Langemeier:but still, the theory of it takes months and years. No,
Loral Langemeier:today you could make money. Every one of you listening have
Loral Langemeier:a brain like you. You have a podcast. If you wanted, you
Loral Langemeier:could sell your time. Is it a great idea? Probably not. Not
Loral Langemeier:for long term and sustainable growth, but for today. If you
Loral Langemeier:needed to, can you monetize your brilliance today? And so I start
Loral Langemeier:with what I call fast cash. What can you do today? Because I want
Loral Langemeier:evidence. I want bank accounts loading up quickly so they feel
Loral Langemeier:more confident. And evidence creates confidence, so it's like
Loral Langemeier:I feel like
Zachary Bernard:whenever we work with clients, like I like
Zachary Bernard:to call those like quick wins. Like you find like anything that
Zachary Bernard:can provide like value. I mean, it's like the same thing. Like
Zachary Bernard:you look at anything that you have on like your your monopoly
Zachary Bernard:board, for example. Like okay, how can we produce these into
Zachary Bernard:like assets, cash? But I like what you mentioned though, like
Zachary Bernard:the the passive because I feel I like this. I mean, everyone has
Zachary Bernard:a big misconception. Like whenever they're showing, like I
Zachary Bernard:want to make some money, like I want to make some passive
Zachary Bernard:income, and I feel like anyone that's getting into maybe
Zachary Bernard:entrepreneurship, making you know, like they're they're being
Zachary Bernard:sold this dream that like, hey, you can create a passive income
Zachary Bernard:machine. I mean, there are so many people out there making
Zachary Bernard:promises, and I feel if you're just getting into the space, you
Zachary Bernard:probably got like hooked into that a little bit, and then as
Zachary Bernard:you learn more things, you're like, it's not really passive.
Zachary Bernard:Like I still have to do like a couple things to you know get
Zachary Bernard:the actual income out of those things. So I do appreciate you
Zachary Bernard:calling that out because I'll tell you, there's so many people
Zachary Bernard:that try to sell that, and it's full. And they make
Loral Langemeier:millions selling that BS.
Zachary Bernard:I mean, that's why they they keep selling it
Loral Langemeier:because people still want the dream. I don't
Loral Langemeier:have to do anything.
Zachary Bernard:Yeah, but you have to put in the work, as you
Zachary Bernard:said. Like you, you can never just make money and just not do
Zachary Bernard:anything. I mean, you you'll have to acquire capital, invest
Zachary Bernard:into just something to be able to get that income, and
Zachary Bernard:typically not be fully passive here. But one thing I'd love to
Zachary Bernard:like shift gears a little bit here because I know we're
Zachary Bernard:literally just talking about it's people selling the dream,
Zachary Bernard:talking about all these things. To put it simply, there is no
Zachary Bernard:shortage of like money experts. To put it very simply, and and
Zachary Bernard:what I love to understand is what do you think people
Zachary Bernard:misunderstand about building wealth. That's kind of keeping
Zachary Bernard:them stuck following the wrong advice. I know obviously the
Zachary Bernard:positive one is the wrong advice, but I imagine there's
Zachary Bernard:probably a couple more that you've seen over time here.
Loral Langemeier:Oh, huge! But the the one thing I just got to
Loral Langemeier:share this funny saying because I've had some people really
Loral Langemeier:like. But I was promised the internet would bring me money. I
Loral Langemeier:said, the internet doesn't just pop out money. There's a human
Loral Langemeier:that has to give you a credit card, so you have to influence
Loral Langemeier:the like. Anyway, I just I always say the internet's not
Loral Langemeier:going to just do out dollars into your bank account. I always
Loral Langemeier:laugh about that, but the biggest problem that I see
Loral Langemeier:because it is the financial services world is so segregated,
Loral Langemeier:right? So they intentionally have like an estate lawyer, real
Loral Langemeier:estate, insurance, but they're not talking your tax person. And
Loral Langemeier:every move you make in life has a tax consequence. I don't care
Loral Langemeier:what country or how big your your tax laws are. Like I think
Loral Langemeier:the Canadians is in the 1000s, like three or 4000 pages. Ours
Loral Langemeier:is 83,000 pages. We have the biggest tax code in the world.
Loral Langemeier:So when people don't understand, like any move you make, like how
Loral Langemeier:do you spend money? Like if you go out and you had to buy my
Loral Langemeier:book, if you had a company, it's 100% deductible. If it's you,
Loral Langemeier:you just spent money. So I always say, you know, to people
Loral Langemeier:in building wealth, their biggest excuse, number one
Loral Langemeier:excuse, is I'm not ready. It's like, well, you're not going to
Loral Langemeier:get ready because you don't even know how to. Get ready. That'd
Loral Langemeier:be like you have no clue how to get ready, and if you attempt it
Loral Langemeier:to get ready, you're probably going to screw it up. It's going
Loral Langemeier:to cost more to fix you. So there's this segregation
Loral Langemeier:problem, which is why my my company brand is actually
Loral Langemeier:Integrated Wealth Systems. So IntegratedWealthSystems.com,
Loral Langemeier:Live Out Loud is the company that holds the DBA, because Live
Loral Langemeier:Out Loud didn't mean anything. So I changed the name to
Loral Langemeier:integrated wealth. The reason is the integration is critical.
Loral Langemeier:Every move you make should have a team of people around you, and
Loral Langemeier:wealth building with speed starts at 18 years old. In the
Loral Langemeier:world, you are an adult, and you can have a company. And all you
Loral Langemeier:have to do is come up with legal reason to make money, and now
Loral Langemeier:you activate a tax code that gives you a completely different
Loral Langemeier:tax structure. So, if I had say one thing, it's the stop using
Loral Langemeier:excuses like I don't have to get ready. But the thing is the lack
Loral Langemeier:of understanding about what your structure and tax, the basis of
Loral Langemeier:your what I call your financial infrastructure. If you do not
Loral Langemeier:have that set, you'll overpay taxes your whole life. And
Loral Langemeier:here's a gross statistics act: for every year that you overpay
Loral Langemeier:$10,000, if you had invested that cumulating over 20 years at
Loral Langemeier:just say 12% you would have made yourself $1.1 million. You gave
Loral Langemeier:it to a government agency and overpaying tax. So I call tax
Loral Langemeier:the invisible pain because people and and if you think
Loral Langemeier:about most money experts and programs, a lot of it's the
Loral Langemeier:fluff of your mindset, right? Because I was in the secret, I
Loral Langemeier:can kind of it's that's lovely. But you got to have the true
Loral Langemeier:action, and then a lot of it's too internet centric or too real
Loral Langemeier:estate centric, and there's not the holistic view of all the
Loral Langemeier:parts of money. So what what slows people down is segregating
Loral Langemeier:their learning, not integrating their learning, and not paying
Loral Langemeier:attention to tax. At 18 years old, like my kids got in
Loral Langemeier:America, they're called LLCs. My kids at 18 both got an LLC for
Loral Langemeier:their birthday. That's how serious. Like you will learn to
Loral Langemeier:make money and have an entrepreneurial venture your
Loral Langemeier:whole life. Because even if you have a job, my son's a CPA. He's
Loral Langemeier:got a job. You still have that company to offset taxes doing
Loral Langemeier:something else. So I just that's the biggest slowdown. Having
Loral Langemeier:done this now over 30 years,
Zachary Bernard:yeah. And I mean, like, and when we talk
Zachary Bernard:about like money advice, like yeah, you're correct. Like
Zachary Bernard:there's going to be like segregated like advice coming
Zachary Bernard:from like all different like categories. But again, if you're
Zachary Bernard:taking all your advice in like one person, I mean, you're
Zachary Bernard:missing so many different components, and I feel like a
Zachary Bernard:lot of people get bogged down with taxes because they don't
Zachary Bernard:think about them too much. And I mean, I mean, I'm not sure if
Zachary Bernard:you would say that's like very applicable more on like a
Zachary Bernard:personal level. I mean, I mean, obviously, if you have like an
Zachary Bernard:LLC, yes, but I mean, I had a a someone on your podcast a couple
Zachary Bernard:weeks ago, and you mentioned something to me that kind of
Zachary Bernard:stuck. You mentioned that the way you should be looking at
Zachary Bernard:taxes is, in some cases, it can actually be a profit center
Zachary Bernard:because if you know how to effectively navigate all the
Zachary Bernard:pages, I mean, I know there's obviously a lot of them, but you
Zachary Bernard:can keep more of this money here. And I thought that was
Zachary Bernard:like an interesting saying that he mentioned that.
Loral Langemeier:Yeah, I do. I'm, and I always say I'm. I
Loral Langemeier:think taxes are prescriptive, but here's how taxes are treated
Loral Langemeier:in the segregated model is there's kind of two points I
Loral Langemeier:want to make. Number one, it's segregated intentionally, and
Loral Langemeier:the way that tax has been educated and informed in the
Loral Langemeier:world is just that damn form you have to fill out in America by
Loral Langemeier:April 15th and in Canada by I think it's June 30th. I don't
Loral Langemeier:remember. Like I know that's Australians, but you have this
Loral Langemeier:tax year end, and then you hand all your box of stuff
Loral Langemeier:metaphorically. It could be a file to a CPA or any content,
Loral Langemeier:and then they do what you did. So basically, they're a
Loral Langemeier:historian. They're just recording your history. They're
Loral Langemeier:not sitting with you as a strategist saying, "Okay, Zach,
Loral Langemeier:how much you're going to make in the next 12 months? Let's keep
Loral Langemeier:more of. You're going to make a million bucks. Let's keep
Loral Langemeier:900,000 of it, and let's use that for your own wealth
Loral Langemeier:building. And honestly, with our tax teams all over the world,
Loral Langemeier:that's that's the one thing I've done is I've surrounded myself
Loral Langemeier:with 28 financial license experts. So I'm the navigator,
Loral Langemeier:kind of the the quarterback in the middle, helping people move.
Loral Langemeier:Okay, you need this expert. You need this expert. You don't need
Loral Langemeier:that expert now, but you need that expert, and you oh, you
Loral Langemeier:forgot about that expert. So I help coordinate the experts. Is
Loral Langemeier:really what my role in this business has become, because
Loral Langemeier:integration is complicated, and I know enough about each of
Loral Langemeier:these areas to then help the client put the the right team
Loral Langemeier:and the right plan together. If that makes sense, so that's
Loral Langemeier:where we've you know that's where I've ended up in my
Loral Langemeier:career. It wasn't where I started in my career. My career
Loral Langemeier:I was doing all all of the parts, but then to get a lot of
Loral Langemeier:these companies, I've helped over 10,000 people become
Loral Langemeier:millionaires. But it's not just me; it's me coordinating their
Loral Langemeier:team. And again, back to tax. It's not just just a tax return
Loral Langemeier:being filed. And I think that's what the world thinks. It's just
Loral Langemeier:like, well, it is what it is, and somebody's just got to file
Loral Langemeier:that form. It's like, oh no, there's a whole plan around this
Loral Langemeier:that you could. I think I think it's the most creative thing
Loral Langemeier:ever, Zach, because it's like you get to build your
Loral Langemeier:masterpiece of, okay, I only want to pay 5000. I'm going to
Loral Langemeier:make millions, but I'm going to pay. You got to get
Loral Langemeier:really creative, really creative.
Zachary Bernard:The way I like to think about it is there is
Zachary Bernard:like tax planning, but there's also tax strategy, and like most
Zachary Bernard:people only do the tax planning, or it's more like in a reactive
Zachary Bernard:fashion where they're just going to like file the return whenever
Zachary Bernard:they need to do it, but they're not strategically putting steps
Zachary Bernard:into motion to be able to get to that 5000, for example. Yeah,
Zachary Bernard:and I feel that's the big part that's missing from a lot of
Zachary Bernard:people here. And I guess for like someone that's who feels
Zachary Bernard:like they're behind, because I mean you you see that every
Zachary Bernard:single day. A lot of people, you know, they've done all the work,
Zachary Bernard:and then they realize they just maybe look at their their little
Zachary Bernard:nest egg, and then they're like, wow, you know I'm retiring
Zachary Bernard:pretty soon. I don't really have much going on. Maybe not
Zachary Bernard:retiring pretty soon, but I've been working for like 1520,
Zachary Bernard:years, and I feel like I'm behind. For someone that wants
Zachary Bernard:to like catch up quickly, what would you say should be the
Zachary Bernard:first few moves that they should be actually making to get back
Zachary Bernard:in line and have all the ducks in a row here?
Loral Langemeier:Well, again, depends. I always do an
Loral Langemeier:assessment, pretty deep assessment of who's who, like
Loral Langemeier:where are they. Sometimes, like people who are making millions.
Loral Langemeier:I mean, if we can just go after that tax savings and affect 40
Loral Langemeier:to 50,000, and they put that towards say a new. I mean,
Loral Langemeier:they'll say we can help them save 50,000, and then we do that
Loral Langemeier:for the next five years. I say that's five to 10 pieces of
Loral Langemeier:property they could have bought, right? And now they can use that
Loral Langemeier:that savings to go buy assets to catch up. Some people actually
Loral Langemeier:aren't making hardly any money, which is why taxes don't occur
Loral Langemeier:to them because they're not really overpaying. There's not
Loral Langemeier:they're not making enough to overpay. So then we go after
Loral Langemeier:money making. So I have clients like yesterday I onboarded a
Loral Langemeier:client. She's 80 years old. She does Medicare and Medicaid
Loral Langemeier:insurance. She's right up next to the Canadian border, and she
Loral Langemeier:has a nice nest egg. But it's not enough, and she's super
Loral Langemeier:healthy. She plans to live to 100, so she came at 80. At 80,
Loral Langemeier:came to my big table and said, "I'm you know, so we're going to
Loral Langemeier:help her ramp up. And so she doesn't know a lot of marketing
Loral Langemeier:because of her age and just all the things that have changed, so
Loral Langemeier:we're going to put a marketing team around her, get her new
Loral Langemeier:website, update her CRM, and get her making a lot more money. And
Loral Langemeier:then she'll use the new money for new assets. So it's either
Loral Langemeier:in tax savings, it's usually three ways we that I would
Loral Langemeier:attack it, which is tax savings is always number one because
Loral Langemeier:that's sort of an obvious home run. Make more money, and then
Loral Langemeier:get your assets making more money too, because a lot of
Loral Langemeier:people they're still people do CDs still like bonds. I mean
Loral Langemeier:bonds are fine, but CDs. I mean because you'll have your lower
Loral Langemeier:interest things, but there are people who literally live their
Loral Langemeier:entire portfolio sub 10 as a ROI. I'm like right now in the
Loral Langemeier:market. I mean if you're not producing in the 20s, you're
Loral Langemeier:asleep. Like I have part of my portfolio, like my land, energy,
Loral Langemeier:and water inside my portfolio is doing like 20 to 32. So you you
Loral Langemeier:got to look at where the problems are and where that
Loral Langemeier:speed is. And I'd also say that's my my gift is I have
Loral Langemeier:again enough breadth having done this in so many areas, and it's
Loral Langemeier:not an arrogant statement. It's just my I would say it's my gift
Loral Langemeier:from God. I get to see the maze and say, "Hmm, let's move some
Loral Langemeier:chess pieces around, and then you're going to get there
Loral Langemeier:faster. And you can get there faster.
Zachary Bernard:But like the overall like theme that I'm
Zachary Bernard:seeing here, Laurel, is having a team beside you that's guiding
Zachary Bernard:you and devising you is like very crucial. Like a lot of
Zachary Bernard:people are just going to try to like do this themselves. They're
Zachary Bernard:going to try to look at YouTube, which you can definitely find a
Zachary Bernard:lot of like interesting information. But it could also
Zachary Bernard:lead some like pretty big mistakes if you don't do it
Zachary Bernard:effectively. So like surrounding yourself with the good people is
Zachary Bernard:real
Loral Langemeier:people. I mean, I have I've had a pod. I
Loral Langemeier:have YouTube. I have all these things. I mean, for years,
Loral Langemeier:especially since post COVID, I went from 100% TV and and stage.
Loral Langemeier:I was traveling all over the world. Like I said before, we
Loral Langemeier:started the show. I've been in your area. Love, I love Nova
Loral Langemeier:Scotia, and you keep going up. I mean, Iceland's on my bucket
Loral Langemeier:list coming next. Greenland, I love those. Like anyway, my
Loral Langemeier:point is, I've been doing this for so long. My YouTube channel,
Loral Langemeier:you can consume all of it. You could read all six books. I got
Loral Langemeier:six New York Times. You still don't have. I'm going to say
Loral Langemeier:like a strat, like me, a strategist who's going to help
Loral Langemeier:put them together. And worse than that, there was a period in
Loral Langemeier:my career too, Zach, where I knew they needed it. So I would
Loral Langemeier:just say, you know, actually wrote in the back of every book
Loral Langemeier:I have, how do you interview a wealth expert? So I like
Loral Langemeier:questions like, how do you interview in a cafe? How do you
Loral Langemeier:interview this person? How do you how do you get these people?
Loral Langemeier:So even if you can get them, because I've had people not want
Loral Langemeier:to pay the tuition for me to just use my team, they they'll
Loral Langemeier:go out and try to find one. I said, yeah, but you still don't
Loral Langemeier:know enough to coordinate
Unknown:them, and you're
Loral Langemeier:still wondering. So a lot of those
Loral Langemeier:people become my client who have teams, and they're just
Loral Langemeier:realizing, like, why isn't the estate lawyer talking to my tax
Loral Langemeier:guy? Because when I die, there'll be estate tax.
Loral Langemeier:Shouldn't they have a relationship? And he's like,
Loral Langemeier:"But I tried to get him on the phone. I said, "I know, but they
Loral Langemeier:won't because they like fees and commissions, fees and
Loral Langemeier:commissions. So that's the role that I've, you know, taken is to
Loral Langemeier:be that coordinator of all those people and to. An amazing team
Loral Langemeier:that'll work with clients all over the world. It's a big deal,
Loral Langemeier:though. It's you know so interesting because money. I
Loral Langemeier:always say you know I first met Bob Proctor at 21. He you know I
Loral Langemeier:was thinking like what do I want to do because when I met him I
Loral Langemeier:was an exercise physiologist. I mean still in by trade, but I
Loral Langemeier:said I want to like I was following the rich dad poor dad
Loral Langemeier:team, so I became the master distributor the cash flow game.
Loral Langemeier:In fact, Darren Weeks, who's in Canada, was one of our first
Loral Langemeier:Canadian millionaires through the cash flow game, and then
Loral Langemeier:became my client. We've had so many cool Canadians become like
Loral Langemeier:millionaires and just do cool stuff. We have, like, actually
Loral Langemeier:the number one photographer in North America is a Canadian out
Loral Langemeier:of Vancouver. Mark, he's super cool. Yeah, it's been it's been
Loral Langemeier:fun to like help so many people in so many different trades. But
Loral Langemeier:anyway, I got I put that little tangent because I just I love
Loral Langemeier:this stuff and I think it's it's fabulous. But you cannot do it
Loral Langemeier:alone. And I was going to say when Bob was coaching me, he
Loral Langemeier:said pick a topic like money, sex, and God. Nobody talks about
Loral Langemeier:them. He said, "You'll have a career of a lifetime because
Loral Langemeier:you're going to talk about three things that are like we don't
Loral Langemeier:talk about money, and that's still in a lot of cultures a
Loral Langemeier:thing. Like when I enter a country, and I don't have to say
Loral Langemeier:which countries because you probably could figure it out.
Loral Langemeier:And I, I from the stage, a as a woman, say, 'How much y'all
Loral Langemeier:make? I mean, it is like you don't ask that question. Like,
Loral Langemeier:yeah, you do. I got to know how much money you make if I want to
Loral Langemeier:help you, and I just say it so freely. I was like, hey, do you
Loral Langemeier:need a drink of water? Oh, how much money do you make? I mean,
Loral Langemeier:it's
Zachary Bernard:okay. What a nice breaker, Laurel.
Loral Langemeier:Well, because the minute I or the other one I
Loral Langemeier:too I use too, Zach is all I have to ask is what what what
Loral Langemeier:month do you pay taxes, and that tells me a whole bunch about
Loral Langemeier:people. I I can just put the dominoes in play about what
Loral Langemeier:their life looks like. Yeah, and I usually
Zachary Bernard:tell if they have a corporation, if they're
Zachary Bernard:like a w2 or anything like that, just by asking that question. I
Zachary Bernard:see where you're going. Good thoughts. So that's a nice
Zachary Bernard:icebreaker. Never thought about that one, so maybe I'll give it
Zachary Bernard:a try. I'm not too sure if it's gonna work in my profession the
Zachary Bernard:way I do things, but I know it definitely works for you. So
Zachary Bernard:keep keep doing that. I'm sure it worked well. So one other
Zachary Bernard:thing that I also wanted to talk about because I mean I feel like
Zachary Bernard:the economy is like a big one. That I mean obviously it's
Zachary Bernard:reminding every single one of us, but I feel like it's
Zachary Bernard:shifting like constantly right now. I mean, you could think of
Zachary Bernard:inflation, job security, all that jazz. Like, what I guess
Zachary Bernard:like the one thing because I know I know we talked about like
Zachary Bernard:the practical advice, like what things you should be doing, type
Zachary Bernard:of people you should be surrounding yourself with. But
Zachary Bernard:one thing that I feel like a lot of people don't touch on too
Zachary Bernard:much is more the like the emotional side of things, like
Zachary Bernard:the the mindset, the habits to be able to obviously get ahead.
Zachary Bernard:Like what kind of habits and mindset do you think separates
Zachary Bernard:the people who come out ahead from the people who just get
Zachary Bernard:left behind, stick with the old habits, and just like not grow?
Loral Langemeier:100% it's knowledge, lack of knowledge,
Loral Langemeier:and it's correlated with a word that people who don't move call
Loral Langemeier:fear and risk. So scary, it's risky. And I said anything you
Loral Langemeier:do. So I've skied since I was four. Like I've skied all over
Loral Langemeier:the world. My kids are amazing skiers. So now, not today,
Loral Langemeier:because I've hurt my knee. But I mean, if you went and followed
Loral Langemeier:my kids or you meet where I used to go, you'd be scared to death.
Loral Langemeier:I mean, I love skiing. I'm a terrible skier, so I probably
Loral Langemeier:would. Your your country? I mean, oh my gosh, you have some
Loral Langemeier:of the greatest skiing in the world in northern Canada. So I
Loral Langemeier:said, if we took you some of those peaks where we were
Loral Langemeier:dropped off in a helicopter, you'd be fierce too. But if you
Loral Langemeier:learned right knowledge, you learn the skill and knowledge of
Loral Langemeier:how to ski. It is an exhilarating thing. So why I
Loral Langemeier:teach the wealth building this way is because it is
Loral Langemeier:exhilarating. It's not that hard. You got to make a bunch of
Loral Langemeier:money. You got to keep it through tax planning. You got to
Loral Langemeier:make and you got to invest it. So you make it, keep it, invest
Loral Langemeier:it. Like that's the formula. And people that don't move, they
Loral Langemeier:they allow the fear of not knowing versus to your to answer
Loral Langemeier:your question, those who win read all the books. They consume
Loral Langemeier:my YouTube. They're comparing me against Tony or Grant Cardone or
Loral Langemeier:Kiyosaki, and we're we all kind of say the same things
Loral Langemeier:differently. But I have a really high touch organization. Like
Loral Langemeier:I'm probably one of the only gurus in the world that give my
Loral Langemeier:personal cell phone when you become a client at the big
Loral Langemeier:table. I have that much of a relationship, so I created
Loral Langemeier:distinctions in it all to get you to go faster. But you have
Loral Langemeier:got to want to learn, and the lack of knowledge. And then
Loral Langemeier:there's this lovely thing that's just embarked upon us and hit
Loral Langemeier:the whole world hot, hard. May 27th of this year, when Google
Loral Langemeier:changed their search parameters, AI changed everything, so now
Loral Langemeier:instead of thinking and knowledge, they'll just ask
Loral Langemeier:Claude, or they'll ask you out GPT. But that doesn't just
Loral Langemeier:that's that's again that's a that's another outside
Loral Langemeier:influence. It's not you in a book saying, "All right, how
Loral Langemeier:does this apply to me, and how am I going to change my
Loral Langemeier:behavior? So if you. You are a w2, and you need to go make more
Loral Langemeier:money. You need to have already pre prescribed. When are you
Loral Langemeier:going to do that during your day? Are you going to take
Loral Langemeier:lunches and stop going and hanging out with your friends?
Loral Langemeier:Are you going to stop going out to the pub afterwards and get to
Loral Langemeier:like get to marketing and selling? Like, what are you
Loral Langemeier:behaviorally going to do to put effort into making the money?
Loral Langemeier:And on the other side, what effort are you doing to go find
Loral Langemeier:investments? If that's what you need to go do, so it's the lack
Loral Langemeier:of knowledge, skill. So I always say a decision, right? It's made
Loral Langemeier:by knowledge, skill, and emotion, and you got to manage
Loral Langemeier:emotion. Emotion has nothing to do with money. Money numbers
Loral Langemeier:don't lie; people do. So why do you let your fear and all that
Loral Langemeier:crap that goes on internally drive a very logical decision.
Loral Langemeier:You either want to pay taxes, or you're just going to keep paying
Loral Langemeier:or not. It's like it's that's a yes or no. What do you want? I
Loral Langemeier:want less. Okay, then we go do these things, and these things
Loral Langemeier:cause a new result. So I make it extremely common sense, logical.
Loral Langemeier:I think I know I do. That's what I've been told by my style. But
Loral Langemeier:so many people knowledge they just won't study. They think
Loral Langemeier:cloud and ChatGPT is going to replace their damn brain. It's
Loral Langemeier:like it's not.
Zachary Bernard:No, I see it more as like a helper, and it
Zachary Bernard:needs a context for you to be able to make those decisions.
Zachary Bernard:Obviously, if you provide no context, how's it going to give
Zachary Bernard:you some good advice? I mean, I think it's great to use cloud. I
Zachary Bernard:use it every single day. I've used it for the past three
Zachary Bernard:years, but you also need a team of advisors that are able to
Zachary Bernard:give you suggestions based on your current situation, where
Zachary Bernard:you're at, experience pretty good.
Loral Langemeier:God doesn't have an experience or intuition,
Loral Langemeier:or you know, I'd say the intuition and experience is what
Loral Langemeier:you missed in any of those, and you got to have it. Like I still
Loral Langemeier:hire mentors today. I've hired mentors my entire life, and
Loral Langemeier:people are still shocked why I spend money doing that. I said,
Loral Langemeier:because there's always a next level. There's always a next
Loral Langemeier:thing. There's a refinement. There's there's some distinction
Loral Langemeier:I don't know that I need to know, and I'd be crazy to stop
Loral Langemeier:learning because I expect you, my client, to keep learning, and
Loral Langemeier:learning's just not, you know. There's just you know I could go
Loral Langemeier:on and on. You
Zachary Bernard:stop like you consistently will need to
Zachary Bernard:educate yourself again to get to that next level. But I feel like
Zachary Bernard:what you were saying falls down to just having like relentless
Zachary Bernard:urgency in terms of just doing the things that need to be done
Zachary Bernard:instead of just like delaying them and just being like scared
Zachary Bernard:of like jumping into like the other and just doing the thing,
Zachary Bernard:I mean, it's simple as that. Like a lot of people just going
Zachary Bernard:to overcomplicate things. Like, how do I do this when the
Zachary Bernard:solution's right in front of them? It's like you literally
Zachary Bernard:just have to do it. But people are just going to make so many
Zachary Bernard:different scenarios in their head why they need to do another
Zachary Bernard:way. They need to do this first. No, just have to do it. That's
Zachary Bernard:simple as that goes. That's my voice. Yeah,
Loral Langemeier:I totally agree. Like I have clients, and
Loral Langemeier:I've given this client to a lot. I just have one that comes to
Loral Langemeier:mind because she was insistent that she created this marketing
Loral Langemeier:system because we do support and sell a marketing system, rapid
Loral Langemeier:marketing, and it involves a CRM, and it takes a while to
Loral Langemeier:build. So once that's all built, then they can activate it. Leads
Loral Langemeier:can come in through your posts and the things we know how to
Loral Langemeier:do. I said, but today, today, you don't need anything. You
Loral Langemeier:just need this and this because she is coaching people who had
Loral Langemeier:like kids that that passed earlier than the parent, right?
Loral Langemeier:So she's she her her message is to grieving parents, and I said,
Loral Langemeier:here's what you have to do. You're going to go in the phone
Loral Langemeier:and you're going to text 20 people today, and then 20 people
Loral Langemeier:tomorrow, and you're going to say, "My name is blah blah blah.
Loral Langemeier:Right? I'm a grief specialist, and is there anything in your
Loral Langemeier:life that I could work with you on? I mean, just set up
Loral Langemeier:appointments and ask for them, and create an offer and ask for
Loral Langemeier:the money. It takes nothing. I mean, I don't care if you use a
Loral Langemeier:damn napkin; you write the credit card down. I mean, like
Loral Langemeier:people. I said this because I am such a bootstrapper. Like I
Loral Langemeier:have, I've made millions of dollars with my phone, napkins
Loral Langemeier:on an airplane, no business card, no books, no nothing,
Loral Langemeier:because I was serving a person's life. And everybody can do that.
Loral Langemeier:Anybody could do that today. To your point, overcomplicate. No,
Loral Langemeier:I have to have the system. The system again. The internet's not
Loral Langemeier:going to pay you, you're going to get yourself paid by serving
Loral Langemeier:people's lives and solving a problem for them.
Zachary Bernard:Love that, Laura. And any parting thoughts?
Zachary Bernard:I feel like there was a lot of ground that we covered here, but
Zachary Bernard:I love to hear if you have like any other parting thoughts of
Zachary Bernard:people. Like, hey, these are like a couple things I would
Zachary Bernard:look at doing if you're trying to get your finances in order,
Zachary Bernard:build wealth, anything that comes to mind there.
Loral Langemeier:Okay, we set up a link. It's called
Loral Langemeier:asklaurel.com forward slash podcast. So you're going to go
Loral Langemeier:grab the ebook copy. I also have two tickets to my Millionaire
Loral Langemeier:Intensive. I teach a class live with a team of my experts for
Loral Langemeier:five hours the first Thursday of every month. So whenever you can
Loral Langemeier:get that, you have two tickets and the book. Go get that. It's
Loral Langemeier:in the show notes, and then read at least up to chapter three for
Loral Langemeier:the gap analysis because that'll give you where are you really.
Loral Langemeier:And then the parting thoughts, you know, thoughts are don't let
Loral Langemeier:your emotions run it. Just know that you have got to take this
Loral Langemeier:on, put it in your day every day. You've got to. If if money
Loral Langemeier:and creating wealth is important, then how much time do
Loral Langemeier:you spend a day doing? Like calendar in your day if you have
Loral Langemeier:to, because your behavior is just going to take over, and all
Loral Langemeier:of a sudden another year's gone by, and yeah, I still didn't get
Loral Langemeier:that company. Yeah, I still didn't move my assets. You have
Loral Langemeier:to make it something that you're going to do and pay attention
Loral Langemeier:to, and it's yours because no one can sign for you. Like
Loral Langemeier:that's one thing, you know. No, I would say with money, with
Loral Langemeier:health and wealth, no one can go to the gym for you, and no one
Loral Langemeier:can create those bank accounts for you. You got to be the one
Loral Langemeier:to do it. So I can guide you and teach you, and I've been a
Loral Langemeier:personal trainer, so it's fun that I've been on both sides of
Loral Langemeier:these. But yeah, I can go to the gym, but that's for my benefit.
Loral Langemeier:It's not going to help you. So you got to get to work.
Zachary Bernard:Go to do the work. No one can do it for you.
Zachary Bernard:That's probably the best message to leave the audience with here.
Zachary Bernard:Well, Laurel, really appreciate you jumping on. We're going to
Zachary Bernard:obviously put all those notes in the description, your website,
Zachary Bernard:the link that you mentioned for the tickets on the book here,
Zachary Bernard:and then yeah, to your listeners, if you've enjoyed
