How to Stop Negativity From Derailing You

Four people pissed me off this week. Four other people made me feel amazing. Guess which four my brain wanted to obsess over?

That’s negativity bias at work. We’re wired to pay more attention to threats, criticism, rejection, and things that hurt. The problem starts when one bad conversation doesn’t end when the conversation does. You carry it into your work, your sleep, your relationships, and the mountain you’re trying to climb. I know because I did exactly that this week.

I’m breaking down three ways to stop negativity from hijacking your focus. First, learn to separate a real signal from useless noise. Then, deliberately make the good stuff louder through gratitude and savoring. Finally, use my decide, park, act process to get the crap out of your head and get yourself moving again.

People will disappoint you. They’ll misunderstand you. They may even judge or reject you. You can feel all of that without handing them the power to knock you off your mountain.

You can teeter. You don’t have to fall.

Key Takeaways:

· Know what deserves your attention

Learn how to tell the difference between feedback that requires action and negativity that deserves no more of your energy.

· Stop giving negativity the loudest voice

Discover why one bad experience can overpower several good ones and how to rebalance where your attention goes.

· Use positive moments instead of dismissing them

Learn how savoring and gratitude can help you regain perspective without pretending the negative experience didn’t happen.

· Get repetitive thoughts out of your head

Use a simple process to stop replaying a conversation long after there’s anything useful left to learn from it.

· Keep climbing when other people shake you

Build a practical way to return your focus to the goal, project, relationship, or life you were pursuing before you got derailed.

About Rebecca:

In 2008, I blew up my life in spectacular fashion. I left a cult, got divorced, and for a time, lost even the few people I had leaned on. I thought greener grasses awaited me. I was wrong. Despite building a wildly successful digital marketing business, remarrying and growing my family to four kids, I felt nothing but dread each morning.

Then came what I now call Epiphany Town. It was that electric moment when I stopped defining my life by what happened to me and began building on purpose. That phase lit me up in a way I had never felt. Now I devote every ounce of my energy to guiding others through their own version of Epiphany Town. I help them find the barriers that are actually holding them back, finally let go of self-sabotaging stories, and leap into a life that is meaningful and deeply fulfilling.

I believe each of us has a story to tell, a gift to offer, and a life worth waking up for. Whether your goal is to impact one person or a million, I am here to help you see your place, claim your voice, and live your life on your terms.
