In the face of COVID-19, leaders must step up. Calm, clarity, transparency and calculated action are critical to ensuring everyone stays safe and as connected as possible. There will be companies that don’t make it and families that lose almost everything. And there will also be many who step up to assist wherever they can in any way that they can. And we need more of those people. Why? Because people follow actions. It only takes one person to step up and show the confidence to do so. That action can be as contagious as what we are fighting. So take these steps to lead during these times: (1) put your mask on first; you cannot serve from empty (2) shift your thinking and embrace new ways of working – including telework (3) COMMUNICATE COMMUNICATE COMMUNICATE – your people need to see and hear from you about the plans and actions in place and (4) LEAD WITH YOUR HEART, ACT WITH YOUR HEAD – compassion doesn’t cost you anything and can give you everything. Start there and make calm and calculated actions. This is a new normal for now and we will have a new normal going forward. But great leaders can help us all weather this storm.
