Howard Brown:

Hello, it's Howard Brown. It's the Shining Brightly

Howard Brown:

Show, we are going to shine so amazingly brightly. I've just

Howard Brown:

been recently introduced to Paty Johnson. How are you today?

Paty Johnson:

Good morning. I'm excellent. I'm very happy to be

Paty Johnson:

here, Howard.

Howard Brown:

Wait to you hear her story? Oh, my God, she is

Howard Brown:

just got the most amazing story. And she comes all the way from

Howard Brown:

Colombia. Now living in the US. Let me tell you a little bit

Howard Brown:

more about Paty. She is an international leadership coach,

Howard Brown:

trainer and speaker, and she has the passion for helping people.

Howard Brown:

Well, that's why you're on my show. Because we all talk about

Howard Brown:

lifting up others, of course, you've helped so many people,

Howard Brown:

and your specialty is procrastination. And people

Howard Brown:

actually don't realise that, that procrastination is

Howard Brown:

basically the root of how things don't get done. Right. And so

Howard Brown:

you figured out an amazing course to help get people more

Howard Brown:

productive, and more positive and get things done in life. And

Howard Brown:

that's so important. So I'm just so excited to hear, hear from

Howard Brown:

you and share with my audience, your amazing story. So But

Howard Brown:

first, tell my audience, something we may not know about

Howard Brown:

you that's, you know, you know, always share with people.

Paty Johnson:

Well, people hear that I'm an international

Paty Johnson:

leadership speaker, and then I go love around the roar. I

Paty Johnson:

actually, I'm from Colombia originally, but I live about

Paty Johnson:

three or four months of my year in the US. And then I travel the

Paty Johnson:

whole world the rest of the year. So people generally say,

Paty Johnson:

Oh, my goodness, Paty, your life is a glamorous, it's so amazing.

Paty Johnson:

And yes, it is amazing. But what they don't know is I was born a

Paty Johnson:

procrastinator. Like people see, like the picture of now. But

Paty Johnson:

reality is my favourite word used to be Monyana. Oh, I'll do

Paty Johnson:

it tomorrow, next week, or next year, for sure. Next year is my

Paty Johnson:

year. So it was not always this rosy. It took me a long, long

Paty Johnson:

time to get to where I am today. And that's why I'm so passionate

Paty Johnson:

about sharing my story, because I started really, really rough

Paty Johnson:

back then. Well, so right you you have the lived experience.

Paty Johnson:

So alright, let's dig in that. Let's go in and talk about your

Paty Johnson:

story growing up in Colombia, and kind of you know, what the

Paty Johnson:

history the tell us tell us about where you came from. And

Paty Johnson:

what why you know what happened then? Yeah, so I was born in

Paty Johnson:

Colombia, and my parents are absolutely amazing. They're very

Paty Johnson:

disciplined, very clean, always on time. And I have a sister,

Paty Johnson:

and my sister, not she thinks she's perfect. But she's not

Paty Johnson:

perfect power. She's almost perfect.

Paty Johnson:

In reality, I was like the opposite. My room was like a

Paty Johnson:

mess. It seems like a tornado had gone through every single

Paty Johnson:

day. I would do my homework at the last minute, but I would

Paty Johnson:

forget it the next day, I would not be on time on my

Paty Johnson:

appointment. So my dad, my parents, but especially my dad

Paty Johnson:

used to say, oh my goodness, Paty, you're such a mess. I

Paty Johnson:

don't know what's going to be your future. I really hope you

Paty Johnson:

get a good husband someday, because I don't see how you're

Paty Johnson:

going to make it in life. And I remember hearing this in a

Paty Johnson:

dinner table. And I was just crushed. I I grew up thinking

Paty Johnson:

there was something really, really wrong with me. And on top

Paty Johnson:

of it all I got pregnant when I was a teenager. So my Colombian

Paty Johnson:

parents almost had a heart attack and they were like potty

Paty Johnson:

now for real, you'd ruin your life. So I came to the US as a

Paty Johnson:

single mom, my son was three years old at the time. And I

Paty Johnson:

felt tired. I was like, you know, I feel stuck. I know I

Paty Johnson:

have a very good high god given potential. And I just feel like

Paty Johnson:

I was like an 40% of my potential. Like, I do. I do. I

Paty Johnson:

do, but I don't get results. I was working long hours I was

Paty Johnson:

getting underpaid. And I just feel tired. And I thought you

Paty Johnson:

know what I there has to be something that I can fix. So I

Paty Johnson:

decided to study psychology just to fix myself. And I discover

Paty Johnson:

that procrastination is not linked to lack of time.

Paty Johnson:

We all have time, but procrastination is directly

Paty Johnson:

linked to emotions. Procrastination is directly

Paty Johnson:

linked to emotions. So when you're afraid, you don't do

Paty Johnson:

things. When you feel overwhelmed, you paralyse. I was

Paty Johnson:

anxious, I was angry. Many people that said the wrong

Paty Johnson:

things to me, I was angry at myself, because I knew exactly

Paty Johnson:

what to do. And I was still not doing it. And it's been proven

Paty Johnson:

that procrastination is the biggest enemy of success.

Paty Johnson:

Procrastination is the biggest enemy of success. So I decided

Paty Johnson:

to study and I created a system that helped me overcome

Paty Johnson:

procrastination, negative emotions, through emotional

Paty Johnson:

intelligence. And so I'd say I took 30 days to work on myself.

Paty Johnson:

And after the 30 days, oh, my goodness, Howard, I fail strong.

Paty Johnson:

I'm like, okay, I can make this happen. So I decided to open my

Paty Johnson:

own business, I had some savings. And somebody said, oh,

Paty Johnson:

so and so is selling a business for $2,000. I'm like, Oh, I have

Paty Johnson:

$2,000. So I opened my own business. And I was able to sell

Paty Johnson:

it. 18 months later, I bought it for $2,000. And I sold it for

Paty Johnson:

500,000.

Paty Johnson:

Just a year and a half later, I couldn't believe it. I've never

Paty Johnson:

seen that much money altogether. A single mom from Colombia, I

Paty Johnson:

had little money I come My background is not from wealth.

Paty Johnson:

So I didn't, you know, I had to beg to for my dad to give me new

Paty Johnson:

shoes every year. So I just couldn't believe I had all this

Paty Johnson:

money. And I discovered by the way that I had a DD attention

Paty Johnson:

deficit disorder, and mild dyslexia. So I had everything

Paty Johnson:

against me. And I sold this business for a lot of money.

Howard Brown:

So I want to tell you, Paty, so yeah, that's,

Howard Brown:

that's so impressive. Because, you know, my book, and my story

Howard Brown:

is about that we all get knocked down in life, and in business,

Howard Brown:

and especially in relationships, right. And we have to find a way

Howard Brown:

to pick ourselves up again. And it took you a while. It just, it

Howard Brown:

didn't happen overnight. It took you a while. And you also got

Howard Brown:

pregnant as a young teenager, you came to this us really with

Howard Brown:

nothing, nothing, built it back up. So all I can say is that

Howard Brown:

that is so inspirational, because it can be done and

Howard Brown:

living proof that it can be done. I am living proof that and

Howard Brown:

so it's amazing. And so you sold that business, and I think you

Howard Brown:

went into real estate after

Paty Johnson:

Yeah, so I sold that business. And then I became

Paty Johnson:

a real estate agent. I started investing in real estate, and my

Paty Johnson:

broker back then said, all party, there are 44,000 realtors

Paty Johnson:

in Tampa alone. It's gonna take you a long time to sell a house

Paty Johnson:

or to online. Okay, I didn't tell him this is what I'm like,

Paty Johnson:

I have a system that's helping me make the stuff get done. So

Paty Johnson:

Oh, my first year out of the 44,000 realtors out of the

Paty Johnson:

44,000 I got ranked number 10. I couldn't believe when I got a

Paty Johnson:

message saying congratulations on like, wow, my system works.

Paty Johnson:

So I open up my own real estate firm. Because a lot of people

Paty Johnson:

were just like, please, please, I want to be part of your team.

Paty Johnson:

And it was then I sold my business. My second business for

Paty Johnson:

even more money than the first one. My after two years. I sold

Paty Johnson:

it for a lot of money. Well, you are procrastinator to now go

Paty Johnson:

getter? Yes. Right. Yeah. And then you followed your system.

Paty Johnson:

And then you wanted to share it with others. So before we do

Paty Johnson:

that, I there's got it you I think there's different types of

Paty Johnson:

procrastinators go through and tell us the different types of

Paty Johnson:

procrastinators. Yeah, it's very interesting, however, because

Paty Johnson:

people think that procrastination is laziness,

Paty Johnson:

right? Like, people are like, you just don't know what to do,

Paty Johnson:

or you're just lazy, which is absolutely not true. Excellent.

Paty Johnson:

Procrastination looks very different to many people. And

Paty Johnson:

there are five types of procrastination. So if you're

Paty Johnson:

listening, if you're one of them, you know, there's a

Paty Johnson:

solution for each one of them. So the first one is

Paty Johnson:

perfectionist, ah, not gonna do it until it's perfect until it's

Paty Johnson:

good enough. So perfectionism is a big blockage, because you

Paty Johnson:

don't take action because you're afraid of how he's going to

Paty Johnson:

look. afraid of failure afraid, afraid of judgement from others.

Paty Johnson:

So that's the first style perfectionism. The second one,

Paty Johnson:

dear devils, like that was the queen of the daredevils So

Paty Johnson:

Daredevil was the person that has one month to complete a

Paty Johnson:

project. And when do they do it? Well, last day, now you before

Paty Johnson:

of course. And then you'd like to rush in it and the computer

Paty Johnson:

breaks and the card breaks. I mean, it's very stressful. And I

Paty Johnson:

used to be that so that's the second type that they're devils.

Paty Johnson:

The third ones. Oh, the chickens. And I love the

Paty Johnson:

chickens. I'm gonna tell you why. Because the chickens are

Paty Johnson:

the doors. They do do do all day. They're busy. And they come

Paty Johnson:

to me and they're like, Paty, I'm definitely not a

Paty Johnson:

procrastinator. Can you see? I'm doing a lot during my day. But

Paty Johnson:

the problem is, the chickens are busy, but not productive, busy,

Paty Johnson:

but not productive. So yes, they do a lot during the day, but

Paty Johnson:

they don't know how to prioritise. So basically, they

Paty Johnson:

keep themselves busy with the easy tasks, just to avoid the

Paty Johnson:

ones that are actually crucial. So that's the third one, by the

Paty Johnson:

way, I was combination of all of them.

Paty Johnson:

Therefore, one is the ostrich. The ostrich is the avoidant. The

Paty Johnson:

dreamer. Oh my goodness, the ostrich is a millionaire in

Paty Johnson:

their mind. But they don't take action, because they're afraid

Paty Johnson:

of taking risks and afraid of failure. So the ostrich lives in

Paty Johnson:

a bubble. Nice life. But no oxygen, ostrich puts their head

Paty Johnson:

in the sand. Ah, absolutely. They don't want to face reality.

Paty Johnson:

Everything's good. Everything's good when everything's crumbling

Paty Johnson:

down. So that's the fourth one. And the fifth one is the self

Paty Johnson:

saboteur. This self saboteur. So the self saboteur is the one

Paty Johnson:

that knows exactly what to do. And either don't do it. Or they

Paty Johnson:

do the opposite. They don't do it, or they do the opposite. And

Paty Johnson:

this is very frustrating, because you're your worst enemy,

Paty Johnson:

you are the one blocking your own success. So there's actually

Paty Johnson:

a way to find out what type of procrastinator you are, we're

Paty Johnson:

gonna we're gonna do something special for your audience today.

Paty Johnson:

And then there's a way to fix it through emotional intelligence,

Paty Johnson:

and neuroscience, which is commanding learning to command

Paty Johnson:

your own brain.

Howard Brown:

We're gonna get there. I like that. So a couple

Howard Brown:

of you've helped a lot of people. Are there any examples,

Howard Brown:

a couple of examples of standout things that you've taken in to

Howard Brown:

help people you could share?

Paty Johnson:

Yeah, I've seen it all. I was the worst of the

Paty Johnson:

worst. So what I tell people anyone listening is, I'm no

Paty Johnson:

better than you. I'm no better than anyone. And I was able to

Paty Johnson:

make it. So there's hope. And I get a lot of solopreneurs

Paty Johnson:

business owners, coaches, people that have a lot on their plate,

Paty Johnson:

right. When you're an employee, you like, you know, you go to

Paty Johnson:

805, and nine to five, or whatever. When you have your own

Paty Johnson:

business, you are everything, you're the sales manager, you're

Paty Johnson:

the CEO, you're the you know, you have to do it all. And it

Paty Johnson:

can get very overwhelming, because it's all that plus home

Paty Johnson:

plus you. So I get a lot of people that either they have a

Paty Johnson:

job, but they're trying to open their own business, or they

Paty Johnson:

already have their own business and they're not making the money

Paty Johnson:

they want to make. They feel that at home, they're not being

Paty Johnson:

productive, the house is full of projects that have not been

Paty Johnson:

done. And I don't know you, but when you're a giver, when you

Paty Johnson:

have a heart to give, and I know you do, then you start giving

Paty Johnson:

everything to everyone else, any all of a sudden go back last on

Paty Johnson:

your list. So I get a lot of good parents, a lot of good

Paty Johnson:

moms, single parents, because I was one where you give, give,

Paty Johnson:

give and at the end you're drained, because you didn't put

Paty Johnson:

yourself first. So I get a lot of solopreneurs business owners,

Paty Johnson:

a lot of moms, a lot of dreamers. A lot of people that

Paty Johnson:

are like, I don't like my job, Paty, and I have this great

Paty Johnson:

idea. I have a business idea. And it's been there forever. So

Paty Johnson:

it is important when you have that and in by the way, my my

Paty Johnson:

oldest client was 85 years old. And she came to me it's lovely

Paty Johnson:

lady, and she's like, I've always wanted to have a

Paty Johnson:

photography business. And she's like, and I don't want to die

Paty Johnson:

without making it happen. So she took my course in 30 days you

Paty Johnson:

launched it, and now as you make really good money, so it's never

Paty Johnson:

too late. If you have a dream if you have something in your

Paty Johnson:

heart, and you feel overwhelmed, when you have a lot on your

Paty Johnson:

plate, that's a good time for you to actually want help.

Howard Brown:

It's amazing because the word you said to

Howard Brown:

lead off telling that example was that you give people hope.

Howard Brown:

The last chapter of my book is sharing hope. And the fact that

Howard Brown:

you do that is really an incredible thing. It's a great

Howard Brown:

quality to be able to, because I actually say I lead a resilient

Howard Brown:

life with hope, and hope is the fuel that gets you there. And

Howard Brown:

you give people that fuel. And I love that. And even an 85 year

Howard Brown:

old woman that wanted to pursue her dreams of photography, she

Howard Brown:

just sometimes you need a little nudge, a little push.

Paty Johnson:

Yeah. we all do

Howard Brown:

we absolutely do. And it's really important. And

Howard Brown:

you've, you've been all over the world. And unfortunately,

Howard Brown:

procrastination. It could. It's anyone, right? It's not, it's

Howard Brown:

not it doesn't have any real, you know, particular type. But

Howard Brown:

we all get bogged down. Right. We all do. And again, from from

Howard Brown:

people that are giving people that are overly ambitious, we

Howard Brown:

all do we take on too much. And then then nothing gets done. And

Howard Brown:

so Oh, this is incredible. I have any other any other

Howard Brown:

examples you want to share? 85 year old and what's a cool

Howard Brown:

success story?

Paty Johnson:

Oh, my goodness. So I got one of my ladies, I

Paty Johnson:

have so many. But there was a lady that came to me. She's a

Paty Johnson:

CPA. And she's like, Paty, I have you know, I'm about to

Paty Johnson:

close my business. I don't have many clients. And I don't know

Paty Johnson:

why. But I'm really good. And I just don't know what my strategy

Paty Johnson:

isn't that something's not working. And it happens that

Paty Johnson:

when you feel bad about yourself, that is a reflection

Paty Johnson:

on everything around you, like your house doesn't look good.

Paty Johnson:

The number of clients you have, are not a reflection of it's a

Paty Johnson:

reflection of how we feel. So we basically work on herself, and

Paty Johnson:

her mindset, how she saw yours or herself back then. And we

Paty Johnson:

work on increasing her emotional intelligence. And she said, she

Paty Johnson:

finished the course 30 days after and then she calls me 10

Paty Johnson:

months later, and she like Paty, look at my sales. She grew her

Paty Johnson:

business 600%. I'm like, is that a typo? Is that a 60% increase

Paty Johnson:

on sales. And she's like, Paty 600. So it's a beautiful story,

Paty Johnson:

you can actually increase yourselves, you can actually

Paty Johnson:

have her and I have people that come to me and like I want to

Paty Johnson:

work on my health. overweight, I haven't been. Actually I have

Paty Johnson:

one client right now. She texts me every single day, her tennis

Paty Johnson:

shoes by the park, because he's walking every single day after

Paty Johnson:

she drops her kids off. So it's a beautiful story.

Howard Brown:

Oh, she sent you her steps.

Paty Johnson:

Every single step is or single day and then she

Paty Johnson:

that she's she's very over her way right now. But now she's

Paty Johnson:

there's hope. She's making it happen. And I love it. I love it

Paty Johnson:

making the goals and it's important. So give me your

Paty Johnson:

definition of emotional intelligence. People hear the

Paty Johnson:

buzzword, but how do you define emotional intelligence? Yeah, so

Paty Johnson:

actually, we've been lied before, we were told, if you

Paty Johnson:

have a very high IQ, intelligence quotient, then

Paty Johnson:

you're gonna make it in life. But that's not true. It's been

Paty Johnson:

proven actually, success comes 85% from EQ, emotional

Paty Johnson:

intelligence. And emotional intelligence is divided in four

Paty Johnson:

quadrants. The first one is awareness of emotions, awareness

Paty Johnson:

of emotions, and most of us are like, Oh, I'm happy, I'm tired,

Paty Johnson:

exhausted. But there's actually hundreds of emotions that we

Paty Johnson:

experienced during only one day we go up and down. So it's very

Paty Johnson:

important. That's point number one, to be aware of your

Paty Johnson:

emotions. Point number two, to learn how to regulate those

Paty Johnson:

emotions. Only once you're aware of your emotions, you can

Paty Johnson:

regulate them. My days used to go up and down happy, not happy,

Paty Johnson:

disappointed, happy again. And it's very important to learn how

Paty Johnson:

to regulate so that your days have control, that your emotions

Paty Johnson:

are not controlling you, but that you are controlling your

Paty Johnson:

emotions. So that is the self part. And there's a social part

Paty Johnson:

in it to understand other people's emotions. Very

Paty Johnson:

important when you're in sales very important when you're in

Paty Johnson:

business. Well, in relationships, obviously at home

Paty Johnson:

is very important to be aware of other people's emotions, and you

Paty Johnson:

cannot control any oh my goodness, I discovered that

Paty Johnson:

after many years of trying. So you cannot control anyone else's

Paty Johnson:

emotions, but you're able to not only be aware, but learn how to

Paty Johnson:

respond to those emotions. So that's emotional intelligence on

Paty Johnson:

your side and to be able to relate to others on the

Paty Johnson:

emotional side.

Howard Brown:

I don't know about you, but everyone, it just

Howard Brown:

taught a little masterclass, you know. So, this is awesome. Well,

Howard Brown:

where we're at that time of the show, we're gonna ask you to put

Howard Brown:

on your sunglasses. Okay. So this is where we do the shining

Howard Brown:

brightly spotlight, and I shine the spotlight on you, I want you

Howard Brown:

to tell the listening audience or the viewing audience, how to

Howard Brown:

get a hold of you. And we'll about and then you have a free

Howard Brown:

gift you want to share with them. So that's exciting, and

Howard Brown:

then share some inspirational inspiration with me, and then

Howard Brown:

I'll close out the show.

Paty Johnson:

Lovely. So basically, I'm gonna do

Paty Johnson:

something very special for your audience. Two special things. If

Paty Johnson:

you want to talk about if you're struggling with procrastination,

Paty Johnson:

if you want to create a plan, I will happily talk to you at no

Paty Johnson:

cost. You can text me, I love text messages. It's at eight one

Paty Johnson:

three in the US. 813-789-1097 Send me a text message saying

Paty Johnson:

I'm in and I'm coming with Shiny Brightly with from Howard's

Paty Johnson:

podcast. So that I know is from you. At 813-789-1097 My website

Paty Johnson:

is stopprocrastinatingtoday.com Stop procrastinating today dot

Paty Johnson:

calm. And actually we're gonna post a chorus because we were

Paty Johnson:

talking about this five types of procrastination. So if you are

Paty Johnson:

curious, and you want to know what your type of

Paty Johnson:

procrastination is, we're going to put a link below so you can

Paty Johnson:

just click on it, and then just find out what your type is. And

Paty Johnson:

if you want to talk about it after just text me at

Paty Johnson:

813-789-1097.

Paty Johnson:

And the inspirational part, I'm gonna say we hear a lot. Oh,

Paty Johnson:

it's good to dream. And if you dream it, you'll achieve it. And

Paty Johnson:

I love dreaming, obviously. But without action, dreams stay

Paty Johnson:

there. So what I say is, action brings abundance. action brings

Paty Johnson:

abundance. I had a dream to someday see the world, I had a

Paty Johnson:

dream to have my own business, I had a dream of getting unstuck.

Paty Johnson:

But it was only when I took action when my life changed. So

Paty Johnson:

if you're ready to take action, and you don't even know where to

Paty Johnson:
