Ali and Rick talk about woodturning and stress relief and the creative process.
About the Guest:
Rick Homer was born and raised in B.C. He has chosen to make Victoria his home for the past 35 years with his wife, Mary. Rick was introduced to woodworking and wood turning at a young age, in his grandfather’s work shop.
Since then he has been refining his craft using environmentally-friendly wood, salvaged from locally grown trees. Rick’s woodturning is a creative process which is often influenced by the color, natural defects, and grain of the woods used.
The wood for Rick’s craft comes mainly from local trees that have died, are diseased, or resulted in being storm damaged. Some of the trees used may have been a hundred years old or more before they succumbed to old age. A few trees are native species but most are trees that have been imported into the area by local arborists and homeowners.
You can view some of Rick’s work either at the Royal BC Museum gift shop where he sells the majority of his work or on his FaceBook group called Homer’s Wood Crafts. He also does custom commission work for weddings and special occasions at very reasonable prices. Shipping is done on a cost basis.
