Learn what the Family Sobriety Now podcast is about and about it's host, Joseph Devlin.
Hello, welcome to the show. I'm your host, Joseph Devlin. And if you know a person who's suffering from an addiction, you're in the right place. Because I know all about that chaos of addiction, and that insanity that encompasses everyone else around you. Because I used to be that person who was causing all that chaos. Today, I'm on the other side of things, I get to help families. And I get to help families develop new possibilities, by addressing with them how to help a loved one quit, how to keep everyone safe, including the family members that are being affected by the person with the addiction. And we also address how do we walk alongside somebody who's in recovery, to support them the best way possible. Because I know one of the keys to long term sobriety is family involvement. When I came out on the other side of addiction, I became a counselor, I also was an auditor of treatment centers. And I also became the clinical director of a treatment center. Throughout all my experiences, the one thing that bothered me the most was, I was not able to work with the families as much as I want it to. So this compelled me to write a book called a step out of darkness, how to help someone enter addiction treatment and walk with them through recovery. See, because what I knew was that the families that I had limited interaction with, they didn't know that much about addiction, nor did they know about the treatment industry. So I poured my knowledge into this book, so that in that time of crisis, the family can look to places and say, Hey, this is what I need to cover when I'm calling my insurance company. And when we're developing treatment plans, here will be some questions that I could ask. This book helped many families. And the next step I want to do with this podcast is to reach even more families. So on some episodes, I'm going to do solo episodes where I'm going to go take a deeper dive into some of the topics in this book. We're also going to address some things like what are some of the warning signs to addiction? What are some of the root causes of addiction? So how do we shift that conversation from one of fear and judgment to one of solutions. I'm also going to bring in episodes with subject matter experts who are going to address addiction and mental health as well as various other family struggles. And I'm also going to bring in families so that they can share about their successes, as well as their failures. So you can work around some of these pitfalls. I'm looking forward to the privilege of assisting you in this emotional journey as we bring that calm that peace and that stability into the home. And if you have any topics that you want to have covered on this show, please reach out to me and let me know. I want to make sure that we are able to address those concerns. So until our next episode, remember, sobriety is a family affair.
