Welcome to destined for success. I'm your
host Jennifer Takagi and in this week's episode, I want to share
a little bit about my journey as an entrepreneur, my own personal
journey, like what happened to me. Last week, I love talking to
Michelle Ricketts, and she was sharing about the foundational
pieces be authentic to yourself so that you can build your
business, it should be the business of your dreams. If
you're walking away from a nine to five job or you had steady
paycheck steady benefits, you better be doing something you
love. Absolutely doing something you love. I worked for well,
okay, back up just a little bit. I graduated college with a
degree in French, with a minor in Spanish, which later they
upgraded to a double major, and an honours degree who knew that
was a separate thing, like a whole separate set of classes.
So I did it all I graduated, and then I struggled to find a job.
I ended up being an assistant here and there. And I think I
had five jobs my first year out of college, which at the time
was fairly normal to have to do that much. So I ended up
following my father into the housing industry, he worked for
the Department of Housing and Urban Development. I got a job
there as a temporary in as a clerk typist in a division. And
I started learning a little bit about housing and a little bit
about mortgage and the rules not getting a loan, but aphylla.
Like how do you make sure that people live up to their
obligations. And I ended up going to work for a mortgage
company was quickly promoted to a supervisor made a really bad
choice and married my college sweetheart, quit that job,
switch to another job got rid of the college sweetheart, and
thank God. And then I ended up literally following my dad to
the Department of Housing and Urban Development. So he was
working in that division at the time where you got the loan to
build apartment complexes houses. I ended up first in the
division where we made sure homeowners lived up to their
obligations. And if they went into default, I would help them
with that figure out what to do. Then I moved over into
multifamily housing, and that's apartment complexes and nursing
homes at the time. Now those have been moved to another
division. You don't really care I kind of didn't either. But
they came in one day. After my well at that point, I'd been
there 25 years and said, you can retire or relocate or resign you
choose? Well, fortunately for me with 25 years of service, I was
able to go ahead and retire and walk away. Because I didn't want
to move. I didn't want to be born and raised in Oklahoma.
I've lived other places I always come back. This is my home. This
is where I will die. Unless it's on a beach and an amazing
vacation. But I'm gonna live here. So when I retired, I was
really young. So did I really retire? No, I just kind of
walked away. So when I walked away at a very young age, I
started collecting certifications. So the very
first certification I got was in disk behavioral profiles. And
it's disk with a capital I which is a little bit different than
disk with a lowercase i. It's the one I learned first. It's
the one I love. That's where my passion is. And I love going
into organizations having had everybody takes a assessment.
And then I go in and teach about the four different behavioral
styles, and how they all work together. So in an organization,
this makes a huge difference, because now you realize that I
am different than you. And you bring this to the party and I
bring that and then we have an entire buffet. Where as before,
I might just be irritated at all you all the frickin time because
you don't do things the way I want to do things. So that was
awesome. I love that certification. I don't promote
it quite enough. I'm not asking enough to go in and teach that.
But hey, if you're hearing this, and you've got a team, even a
team of three to five, perfect, I can come in, I can teach this
and you will be so much more productive because everybody
will be leaning on each other in what they do well and it's
really great. Also change style indicator. We have a natural
response to change. We either say yes, I'm all in let's throw
out all the rules and start from scratch. That's one extreme. The
other extreme is we can change nothing. We've been doing this
for 20 The years this works, don't touch it. And then in
between, it's like, oh, yeah, I like the idea of throwing
everything out and starting over. But oh, wait, we have
rules to follow. How can we incorporate them both? Every one
of those tiles has pluses. Every one of those styles had minuses.
It doesn't really matter, pluses minuses. The important thing to
know is you have the ability to choose how you're going to show
up. Are you going to show up and push back at everything and be a
complete pain in everybody's ass? Or are you going to say,
throw it all out? Start over without any consideration to the
consequences of that dramatic action? Or are you going to be
on the fence for so incredibly long, that the world just passes
you by, like you just cannot make a decision. I love teaching
that I love lining everybody up by their numeric score. And then
asking them, you've got a project, you've got three weeks
to do it, who do you pick, you really don't want to go to the
far extremes of either side as the whole team, he got to have a
mix in there. But you really need someone who's going to
stick us a little bit more to what we already have. And just
judge it up a bit. Like add a little spice. Or if you've got
six months to a year, maybe you have more people who are like
gonna build a monster, they're gonna make Lego or take Legos
and make something cool. And then throw in a couple of people
saying, hey, wait a minute, what about this? What about that?
What about the law? Because the people who follow the rules are
going to keep people like me out of jail. It's great. You line
everybody up, you figure it out. I love this stuff. I love it.
But I was missing a step. And I was trying to make it work. And
I was trying to get hired to speak at conferences, do
breakout sessions, be a keynote. I've been paid what I consider
quite a bit of money for a keynote. I've counted in
keynotes for free. I've kind of done it all. Pardon me, but I'm
trying to figure out how to put this all together. And I need a
business coach. And then another and then another. I didn't even
know that was a thing. Now it's a really popular thing. But at
the time, it wasn't a thing. I started doing everything that
coaches told me to do. But it didn't work out for me. Like it
didn't work out the way they either promised or implied like,
Well, Jennifer, if you just create a course and create a
webinar, and everybody's gonna buy it, guess what? My one sweet
friend Laura is the only one who listened to that webinar. I'm
sure it was out of guilt. And she said something nice about
it. But it wasn't gonna go viral. It wasn't gonna happen,
right? I wasn't in the right space. What have I learned
through this journey? One thing I've learned is owning this
stage makes me happy. My friend Kimberly Crowe says if someone
hands you the mic, you say yes, I'm kind of that girl. hammy the
mic. Let me own the stage. I had the fabulous opportunity to give
a breakout session, but it was on the main stage called the pit
at the casino in what's it called? Just outside of Tulsa.
You know which one I'm talking about. Anyway, I was on that
stage. And they're like, oh, yeah, Blake Shelton has
performed here. I walked up and down that sage edge to edge
going, do you think he stood here? Do you think he stood
here? I cracked myself up. I had a lot of fun. I think they did,
too. I broke up the monotony a little bit of this conference.
It should be fun. It should be fun. We should enjoy it.
Learning should be a fun thing. And I love it. So being on stage
makes me happy. I have a podcast. Why? Because I can sit
here in my office and I can just chit chat to the wall. And guess
what? I'm like in the top 5% of the world and podcast. Who knew?
How does that happen? I don't know if there's an algorithm or
something. I love on the stage. I love training. I teach for the
great state of Oklahoma. Well I have for a long time but I
haven't heard from him lately. So maybe I got fired, I don't
know. But then I got into energy healing. And you're thinking
what? energy healing? It's amazing. Everything is made of
energy. Everything. Albert Einstein said like in the 40s or
50s. The future of modern medicine is in frequencies. What
is frequency? Frequency is an energy.
We have MRIs. We have CAT scans. We have proton therapy. P, we
have targeted laser things. We have laser hair removal that
made me happy when that came out. Everything is happening on
the frequency of energy. And so I ended up on this path of
learning various modalities of energy work. And you're
thinking, I want to thank you so work for me. Well, if you
believe that it's absolutely not going to work for you. However,
I've helped hundreds of people, I don't know how many exactly,
but hundreds of people, I have helped people quit smoking,
effortlessly and easily. To events, live events, there were
cats there to different people to different locations to
different countries. By the way. These people's eyes were just
running down their faces red Klein, because they were
allergic to cat. One had never even seen the cat. The whole
room had been completely it was at a home had been completely
cleaned out. And all rented furniture brought in for this
event. And about an hour in this girl's face is just bright red.
Her eyes are tearing and she was like, Is there a cat in his
house? It was locked in the basement. There was a cat she
was allergic. I was like, Yeah, I'm gonna fix that. And she was
like, yes. But then she didn't, a little bit of time passed and
she came up so cute. I'm sitting in my chair, we're about to
start back and she pits one hand and the other hand on top of it.
So like open palms, like, I guess Catholic, if you're taking
communion, you put your hands out and the priests puts that
wafer on your hand. And she put her hand out and she said, I'm
ready to receive her blessing. And I went, I don't even know
what you're talking about. And she said, I'm ready for you to
heal me of this cat allergy. And I was like, oh, yeah, let's do
that. 30 minutes later, her eyes are totally dry. They're clear.
They're white, no longer bloodshot. Yes, it happens that
fast. The other guy like had been miserable for two days. 30
minutes later, his beautiful blue eyes were bright and crisp.
And the whites were white. They weren't red. It works. It's
amazing. One friend called and goes, Can you help me with my
shingles pain? I said, Well, let me try. I did a couple of
sessions on her. She said it didn't really help. I don't know
why maybe we needed more sessions. Maybe we did. Because
energy healing work is a little bit like you're driving down the
road and you hit a big mud puddle or the semi next to you
does and covers your whole windshield with mud. As soon as
you hit the windshield wipers and it wipes across, it cleans
part of it, but not all of it. And then it goes back and it
cleans a little bit more, but not all of it. And it goes back
and forth. And then you might have to hit the water a little
bit to clean it a little bit. So with energy healing, you might
need to drink more water. You might need to go to the doctor
on a boat they and kind of girl. Maybe you need to go to the
doctor, maybe you need an antibiotic. Maybe you need the
antiviral medicine, maybe you need a pain medicine and sleep
for three days, both and randomly. The other day, I
messaged a gal and she's worked with me before and I was like,
Hey, how you doing? And she was like, Oh, I'm good. I'm home
right now with severe case of shingles. And I went oh, do you
mean to help you with that? And she said, Yes, please and send
me a link to pay you. I was like, Okay, great. The next day,
she texted me. I woke up pain free today. If you've ever had
shingles or been around somebody with shingles, that's like a
huge deal because they are so painful. Eczema. I had a gal she
had it from the tips of her fingers upper arm across her
chest and moving up her neck to her face. It took five sessions,
five sessions, but I checked up with her the other day. It's
been a year she's excellent free. So energy healing works.
So at this point, I've gotten another certification from the
amazing Brendon Burchard, his certified High Performance
Coaching program. With that, I have a beautiful framework to
put it all together and to heal you along the way as you hit the
blocks of becoming a high performance individual, in your
career, in your relationships in your life. And I love that. And
the point of all of this is to tell you if you're on an
entrepreneurial journey, take a deep breath. Look at what you're
doing, look at who you're helping and decide if that's the
lane you want to stay in. I've come full circle. I still do
leadership, development training. I still help people
with those kinds. kinds of things. But it's not the only
thing I do. It's all packaged together in a neat little bow.
I'm Jennifer Takagi. I look forward to connecting with you
soon. And hey, go get my 12 minute gift.com Three part audio
training on 12 minutes to success. I can't wait for you to
