Kimberley Day:

Hello, hello, hello. Thank you for having me, Chuck. I'm happy to be here.

Chuck Anderson:

I know we've been wanting to do this for a while and the stars finally aligned. And here we are doing this and. And so I'm really thrilled about what we're going to talk about today. So now I don't like to butcher people's introduction. So the introduction I just did is about his introduction he is I'm gonna get with you. And so I'm gonna get you to start by introducing yourself, tell everybody who you are and what you do. And we will go from there.

Kimberley Day:

Awesome. Well, my name is Kim. And I am actually the author of Write and Grow Rich, which is not just my book. It's also my signature program where I teach other coaches, consultants, speakers and service based entrepreneurs how they too, can write and publish a book that they can use to like you kind of mentioned uplevel their branding position if you're thinking about it, right position yourself as a thought leader in your space, become the sought after expert that potential prospects and clients want to work with and virtually eliminate your competition because you just rise to the top when you've got that book and that published author behind your name.

Chuck Anderson:

Absolutely. I mean, when you have the book, you are the expert, right. And so And now, one of the things you know, just kind of a starting point, and I know we're gonna get into lots of examples and you know, the journey and all of that. But let's start with when should a business or an entrepreneur Think about writing a book because, you know, I've heard all the things right you know, all you want to reach a certain level or I need to have a certain number of things figured out and when you know all the timings not right, so what is the timing just so that we get that out of the way. So then we can start explaining to people what they should be doing from there?

Kimberley Day:

Well, it kind of reminds me of that example, or that thing which came first the chicken or the egg. Right? So, does the book make you the expert? Or do you need to be an expert before you write the book? And my answer is, you know, the best time to have written your book would have been yesterday, or when you very first started your business, the next best time is now ultimately, if you use the book, writing strategy alongside of your business growth, wherever you're at in your business, starting out is the perfect time, I think. But not everybody thinks about it. Not everybody understands the strategy, not everybody is even heard of this strategy. So I love to say that it's just the time is now it really is a magical tool that will help you explode your business results. And it's just, it's so powerful. It's so transformational. It's what I used to double my income in less than 12 months using the stream strategies that I teach now. But back when I was a financial advisor, struggling to find new clients, on the income roller coaster, right, like having a great month with a bunch of clients. So if you can, if you're listening or watching and you can relate, you know, like we you got into business, because you're excited about what you do, you're passionate about helping people get transformational results, whether it's in their business, in their relationship in their health, but you didn't go to business and marketing school. So all of a sudden, you're like, I've got great clients, this is awesome. And then you're like, oh my god, where's my next visa payment coming from? Where's my next mortgage payment or car payment coming from? And it's that feast or famine that a lot of entrepreneurs experience that the book helped solve for me and why I'm so passionate now about teaching other people how to use this wonderful strategy.

Chuck Anderson:

You know, it reminds me a lot of my origin story struggling to get clients. And so I'm curious to hear a little bit more about so what at what point did you decide a book was the thing you were going to do? And then what was that decision? And then what really did it do to change your business to change it from struggling to get a client to Hey, clients are coming to me?

Kimberley Day:

Yeah, that's a great question, Chuck. And really, it all came about from my decision to get better at marketing. Like I knew I my biggest problem was finding and attracting clients. You know, I was, I was passionate about financial literacy. When I was an advisor, I really wanted to get the information out. But I was I didn't know where to go. Look, I was taught by my, the firm that I was working for, to go out network, and you know, go and find, find people that way. And, you know, I equate networking, not that networking is a bad thing. I do a lot of networking. But as an advisor, networking isn't necessarily where your perfect client is always hanging out. So I equate it to the whole, you know, do you want to throw a bunch of spaghetti at the wall, then see if it sticks? Or do you think a better strategy might be to throw spaghetti at Italians? Because you know, they like their pasta? Right? So I set out on a quest to improve myself and find mentors that were that were in the marketing space. And so I actually was at a big platform speaking event, it was called the world's greatest marketing seminar. It was in LA, in California. And it was a multi speaker event. So it was like, how to use a podcast like you're doing now to grow your business, how to use email marketing, to grow your business, how to use Facebook groups to grow your business, how to use a book to grow your business. And as I was listening to that gentleman speak, I was thinking to myself in my head, all of the mentors and gurus that I was following and they were like Robert Kiyosaki. Rich Dad, Poor Dad, right. It was David Bach, David Ramsey, Suze Orman. All big names in finance in the United States. In Canada were both from it was David Chilton, The Wealthy Barber it was Gail VAZ actually till death do us part. She not only is a multi published author, but she had her books turned into a TV show that to help struggling couples with a fight about money right to get better with their money. So the whole concept that he was sharing with me that it up levels, your brand, your brand and positions you as an expert or a thought leader and almost magically turns you into a celebrity more than just an expert. And everything he was saying was like, tick, tick, tick, all those people, they were all gurus, they were all celebrity. They all were multi published, like series of books around their concept, right? And that's when I said, Yeah, I'm going to do it. I'm going to become a published author, I hired that gentleman that was speaking on stage, because when I like to get things done, I like to get them done fast. And you can go faster when you use mentors, because success leaves clues, right. So I followed, he laid out in front of me. And in less than three months, I had my very first published book, the financial fitness playbook, The Ultimate Guide to winning the money game. And I not only was going to publish this book, but I had a big strategy behind me where I was going to do the ultimate guide to winning the money game was book number one. But I planned this with a series in mind, I was going to do the Baby Boomers guide to winning the money game, the millennials guide, the couples guide, the entrepreneurs guide, I was going to write a big series to just micro niche down into all of the markets that I wanted to work with. And I think back to the question, which is how did it transform my business? Well, first of all, you get positioned as the expert. Second of all, people start wanting you to come and seek, like it opens a lot of doors to speaking opportunities. I was on my local radio, local news, national news. I was guest speaking on CTV news all the time on topics like spooky spending at Halloween, I had a list of topics, I could talk about seasonally, and all all throughout the year. And I would get called upon to speak. And that even up leveled my visibility and my branding and my credibility and my celebrity even more. And the results were just so transformational. I decided I was way more passionate about helping other entrepreneurs achieve some more success like this. And instead of the struggle, the struggle, it was so painful that I wanted people to stop feeling the struggle and start learning new strategies. Morons way more fun than selling life insurance, let's just be honest.

Chuck Anderson:

Right, like, who doesn't want to work with entrepreneurs and help them tell their stories because there's so many amazing ones. And that's really why I do this as well. It's why I do the podcast. It's why I work with this audience in my consultancy as well. And so I'm with you. I mean, it's it's way more exciting. Couple of things that I heard you say and then I want to kind of build upon that. And that was that you were invited to speak on media and that you were interviewed on television. And you know, I have friends in media as well, they typically will look for book authors before anyone else when they're inviting someone to fill a segment or to interview on a certain show. I mean, you can ask them, like everyone wants to be on TV, or you know, you can spend money on advertising, which is gonna cost you a fortune, or you can be the expert, and they invite you to be on their show for free. So, um, can you speak a little bit about that, and just what your experience is with with, you know, being a book author and also getting invited to participate on media?

Kimberley Day:

Yeah, well, that's, again, another great question. And the whole thing about the media is that, you know, every newspaper, every magazine, every radio show, every television program, and every journal, and every podcast starts every day, or every week or every month, as a blank slate that they need to find and fill with content, typically content from experts. And, of course, authors are immediately perceived as the experts. So it was really easy to get on radio and TV, when you position yourself as hey, I'm the published author of, you know, the financial fitness playbook. And I'd love to come and speak to your audience here, some of the topics I could speak on, and how I can provide value to your listeners. And you know, what's in it for the listener, what's in it for the radio station, and then the benefit is the win win for you as the author. So for me, I got a whole bunch more exposure and visibility. And I would literally, I remember the day it was really funny. I remember the day that I was at a big, it was like a, I was at a one of those co working spaces in Vancouver. It was called collabspace. I'm sorry, it was in Ottawa. It was when I was living in Ottawa. And somebody came up to me and was like, Hey, you're that girl on and I forget where he said he saw me. But he recognized me from online. I've never met him before. But I literally was becoming like a little mini celebrity in my hometown. And that's how quickly it can happen because If you're able to get out and attract Media and Publicity, so and one of the things I teach in my course, when I, when I work with my students is how to craft, you know, your outreach to podcast hosts to, to TV and radio hosts so that you can you get seen you get noticed, you can start with, you know, a great subject headline and have your what's in it for the value for the show what's in it for the value of the listener or the viewer of that platform, and all of your talking pieces. So it's, it's something that's really important to get right, so you can get the medium publicity quickly. And I figured that stuff out, because I hired a medium publicity coach alongside of my book writing hosts. So again, I wanted the publicity. So I learned how to do it right. And now I was able to take that information and include it in my program, when I teach people so they don't have to go and shop all sorts of different professionals, I've got all of this stuff, all housed in one space where they can learn all these strategies that I used, quite literally, to double my income in less than 12 months.

Chuck Anderson:

Wow, amazing. So I mean, as a business owner, as a creator of a product or a program, you obviously want to get the word out about that. And it's like so many marketing strategies cost a lot of money. And what you just described is like, hey, this, people are recognizing you from online, they're recognizing you for media appearances there. And so and that's priceless. I mean, it's kind of them building your brand, you're providing a service to them, which is they sell content. But so that's really, really powerful. What are you hearing from your clients as they come in the door when you first talk to them? Like what's, what's the struggle? And you know, what's, you know, what, what do you think is originally attracting them to, to book as being their next potential marketing strategy?

Kimberley Day:

Yeah, I mean, it's funny, because some of the struggles that I hear coming through the door with respect to writing a book is, people think it's gonna take a long time, right? They think it's going to be really hard. They think it's going to take a lot of resources. And then there's the good old imposter syndrome, or Am I smart enough credible enough to write the book, right? I call that my itty bitty shitty committee, you know, the little voices in your head that scream at you saying, I'm not enough, I'm not worthy, and whatever. And you know, for those people, I just say, tell them, thank you for sharing, and then ignite your pet salon. Or you look at the cheerleaders that yes, you are enough. If you're teaching or working in your space, already, you are 100% credible enough to write a book, you're quite literally just outlining how you take somebody on your customer journey, right? What is the problem that your customer is struggling with? What's that transformational result that you help your your clients get, and then you use your book to bridge the gap right from where they are now, to where they want to be. So that's the key to writing a great book, because it's not just about attracting more people into your business, it's attracting more of the right clients into your business, very key distinction. And, you know, it's something that I deep dive into really, really effectively during that first couple of weeks of the program, right. So that's probably one of the biggest struggles. And as much as far as the time people think it's going to take so much time, I literally just have my brand new world record holder students who quite literally just last week after the end of our planning section in in the course right now. She had just wrote her entire manuscript in two days. So once you have the foundation in place, the writing of the book is really really fast. Because you know exactly what you're going to do. You have the map to follow. And it's quite literally just, it comes to life. So

Chuck Anderson:

Amazing. Well, I used to, I used to work with Kiyosaki and traveled to a lot of the Rich Dad Poor Dad seminars and spoken a lot of the seminars. And I remember when he wrote the first book, now he's got like, 20 plus books or whatever. And, you know, those seminars were standing room only sometimes. And really, when when I had conversations with him, it was really the book that really got him all of that attention and all of that, and I think about also, you mentioned that list of experts that that you noticed when you were at that book, or that marketing conference, every single person you named has a book

Kimberley Day:

100% And that's what I was thinking in my mind. So, you know, for for you, Chuck, I don't know who you follow in your space for your gurus and your mentors, but I bet you 99% with 99% certainty that whoever you're following are also published authors. So, you know, if you're watching or listening, what industry are you in? Who do you follow? And are your mentors and gurus published authors? I'm going to bet, probably, again, the answer is 99.9%. Yeah.

Chuck Anderson:

Well, and if we're modeling successful people, and they all have books, you know, one plus one equals two. So book plus successful equals, I must have a book also to be successful, or at least that can be a really big key component to my success, right. And so

Kimberley Day:

It's a huge key component, and it goes hand in hand with other strategies, like we've talked about speaking today, right? Like your, you've got your podcast, and I know you help a whole bunch of other podcasters to, you know, get more visible and use better strategies through affiliate programs. And those are fabulous. So no matter what industry you're in, you can pair your book with speaking, you can pair your book with an online funnel, you can pair your book with hosting a seminar like Robert Kiyosaki did and gathering an audience in a live events. There are so many strategies once you have your book that you can bring people down. So that ultimately it's because it's not about selling books, right talk, ultimately, it's about leading somebody down a path will work with you on your primary, like one on one coaching or your group coaching program or your online program. Right, whatever it is, your back end offering is, that's the purpose of the book, it's driving people down a path to work with you so they can get those results faster and more effectively than they could without your help. Right.

Chuck Anderson:

Robert was really clear that it was the book was not where he made his money. The book is where he got attention. It's where he got eyeballs. I mean, he had developed a board game that he was trying to sell for $400 a copy. So how do you take a board game which some compared to monopoly unfairly? But I mean, if he developed a board game, how do you sell that for $400? A copy? Well, you create the the book, you can you create the narrative, you create the, the thinking and the rationale behind it. And so people would come to his seminars, because they read the book, they wanted to hear the man speak. And then they lined up, in fact, not really lined up like it was it was, it was chaos, actually tripping over themselves to get to the back table to pay $400 for a board game, and a package of other training and products after it because it created this whole thing. And the rich dad became a series and and there's just there was so much to it. But without the book, the game didn't sell with the book. He sold millions of copies of that game.

Kimberley Day:

I have a copy of that game. Game, it's called the cashflow game. That's right. So it was how to get out of the rat race. So you want to get out of the rat race. I did. So I got the game. I actually also invested in both his real estate education and his stock trading information. So I've done multiple Kiyosaki programs. And it all started with the book. So if you have a back end offering, a book is a phenomenal top of funnel marketing asset that will support your business forevermore, it is just it's a magical lead generation tool. And just it gives me goosebumps just when I said that I got goosebumps. It's like it really is. It's like I can't even explain how magical it is, once you have it and you're holding it in your hands and you use it effectively.

Chuck Anderson:

Absolutely. Well, if it wasn't for Kiyosaki, we wouldn't be sitting here talking right now because it was really his inspiration that led me to all of the things that I've done since and so. So it's interesting how a book and it's all again, just like you said, it started with reading the book, Rich Dad, Poor Dad, it was a title that was so compelling. It's like, well, what's that? And it took me all of two minutes to decide to buy it walk out of the store, read it, and it's one of the very few books I've read cover to cover, because I'm not a really good reader. I'm a good listener. I do the audiobook thing because it's how my brain works, but it's one of the few books that I've actually read cover to cover.

Kimberley Day:

And he's very story he tells a lot of stories, right? So it's an easy read. My favorite book of Robert Kiyosaki is actually not Rich Dad Poor Dad is Cashflow Quadrant, which is the book where he talks about going from a employee to a entrepreneur, right. Or self employed right a self employed person to a business owner, which most people think there isn't sooner, but usually most of them are self employed. So his definition of the business owner is, if you could walk away from your business for a year or more, and it's still going without your you being there, that's the true different definition of a business owner versus an operator, which is the self employed person. And then the investor using the income that your business is producing to invest in, in other income producing assets. So that was the game changer book for me. When I read that I was like, oh, yeah, I'm moving to that side of the quadrant. That's where all the fun is happening. So I love his books, they were great. But so many, so many examples of so many authors that have launched to success using books, and then understanding how they're going to lead somebody down the funnel to working with them in a better and more transformational way.

Chuck Anderson:

I think that's a great segue into another topic that you and I know we both want to cover. And that is some book recommendations. And books have played a huge part in my growth, they've played a huge part in yours as well. And so let's, let's recommend some must read books for our listeners. And you know what, just so that it doesn't seem self serving, because I want you to do it. Tell them about yours first, because let me let me let's first and foremost, let people know about your book, and then some of the others that you recommend.

Kimberley Day:

Yes, of course. So my book is right and Grow Rich. So if you are considering writing a book to grow your business, attract more clients, position yourself as the go to expert or thought leader in your space, and become the person the undeniable person somebody wants to work with over the competition, then, of course, I would suggest grabbing a copy of right and gurwitch. It's a fabulous easy read 100 and just over 100 pages, but it is literally the step by step path to walk down to be able to get that book out of your head and into your hands in three months or less. So it's my proven path to published in 90 days or less, which is fabulous. But of course, we've talked about all sorts of other books I've talked about Kiyosaki books, I mean, I read a lot of finance books, because that was my industry. But I also now being in the marketing space, and going down that path that I described at the beginning of both understanding marketing, because I went to find that school to learn how to be an amazing advisor, but they never taught me the marketing piece. So I had to go and learn that on my own. So I'm a self taught marketer. And of course, marketing, as you know, check is changing all the time. So it's always I'm always reading and devouring things. One of my favorite marketing books, actually is the one page marketing plan. Yeah, so it's actually just a quick snippet, you can write your whole strategy on one page. And it's a great, great book. It's one that I refer to often when I'm talking about marketing, because my book writing program, yes, it's about writing a book. But I'm not, do not be fooled. I am not a writing coach. There are editors for that. What I am is a marketing coach. And I'm teaching you how to use the book as a marketing strategy. So it all starts with that foundation of knowing who it is you serve. Getting really clear on that, who that perfect client is for you. Because that knowing and understanding that creates the perfect title and subtitle in front cover that attracts them. Right. So. So that's some great one. I don't know, what do you what is one of your favorites, Chuck?

Chuck Anderson:

One of my favorites is? Well, one of my and I haven't right here, and it's a fairly new book. I mean, my whole, you know, nonfiction reading journey started with thinking grow rich. And I know a lot of people say it, and it's been mentioned on the show, lots of times, this one here, high performance habits by Brendon Burchard. And this is a book that I've read, probably five or six times since I've got it and it hasn't been out that long. But it's one of the best, I'm huge into personal growth, personal development. And what Brendan is, he's the right balance between, you know, personal growth, personal development, that inner game, but also with practical, actionable things. So, you know, taking yourself to the next level, but also taking your business to the next level at the same time. And really, you know, in order for the business to grow, you have to grow. And it's amazing how insightful it's been in terms of becoming aware of things like, oh, yeah, I'm good at this, or I'm good at that. But you know, are you really and and so and then identifying some areas to work on. So it's been huge for that. And it's something that I make a point of reading once or twice a year from this.

Kimberley Day:

Let me guess, did you go down a book funnel to buy that one? Oh, my

Chuck Anderson:

Geez. I wonder, right? Yes, absolutely.

Kimberley Day:

Brendon Burchard. He's one of the kings of the free plus shipping book. I've seen other ones, Russell Brunson of you know, good. Three plus shipping book funnel to get you down the path to buy his software as a service. Click Funnels, right, a perfect example of a brilliant, top of a book as a top of funnel.

Chuck Anderson:

And I just bought Roland Fraser's book, same thing, free plus shipping, and it you know that it's a model that works extremely well, especially when you're an expert.

Kimberley Day:

And speaking of experts, and speaking of industry experts, and speaking of industry, experts in your industry that are published authors, I'm constantly going down my competitions, like the guys that are way ahead of me in the book publishing world, like I just bought this one Alpha funnel published by Chandler Wolf. Because Would you not agree, it's kind of important to be knowing what your competition is doing. And maybe seeing if they're doing something better than you are and keeping up to date with industry, like industry knowledge, because everything's moving at such a fast speed. So that's like a great tip to just hot tip, right? Follow your industry experts, and go down their funnels and see what they're doing great strategy for, for learning and growth.

Chuck Anderson:

And who knows, there could be collaboration potential in the future, because I can think of examples of where I saw someone as potential competition. And then we ended up working together. And so just because you're doing that, and he's doing his thing doesn't mean that you're, you know, it's like Pepsi and Coke. It's like, you know, there are there's such collaboration potential in anything. That's one of the reasons why we do the podcast, we're always looking for, you know, people to partner with people to to do new things with. And, you know, that's how you and I met through through networking and mutual friends that that we're collaborating with. So you just never know. And

Kimberley Day:

Yeah, and then it just doesn't end right. Like I've got another couple of my book I got speaking Grow Rich. Interesting, right, that thing that you talked about thinking Grow Rich, this is speaking Grow Rich by Jack Canfield, mine was right and Grow Rich, right. So this is a little bit of a theme going on. And it's all designed, it was designed with my perfect client in mind, because I wanted to be working with people who are a little bit more personally and professionally advanced, right people that because part of my struggle as a financial advisor is I wanted to work with people I wanted to help people helping and serving is a big part of my values, and my, you know, my culture for my business. But I felt like in the world of finance, I was dragging the horse to water like dragging them him kicking and screaming to the chalk, because nobody really wants to buy life insurance. But people that want to, I want to help people that want to help themselves. So in the book world, it was important for me to know that people that are interested in personal professional growth would be a really good fit for working with me, because I know they're going to do the work and they're going to get the results and and and reap the benefits on the backside not only for themselves, but the clients that they help, right and their business results. So it's like this win win win trifecta.

Chuck Anderson:

Amazing. Well, I love that. And I could spend another hour talking about this no problem. I mean, and there's just so many examples. And I know that we're fans of some of the same gurus and all of that out there. But we'll we'll save that for an episode to perhaps and maybe to be continued on on your live stream because I know you have a live stream as well. Kim, thank you so much for for this, all of this. And you know, I think you know, for our audience has been listening and said, Okay, enough already, I need to write a book. And they want to take the next steps and reach out to you and connect with you in though in your world, I know you have a free gift as well. Let everybody know, where where they can connect with you. And, and so we'll we'll send people your way.

Kimberley Day:

Absolutely. So I do have a very special gift for anyone who is listening or watching this episode. And it's my 10 Step Guide to plan and write your very own clients attracting book. And it's more than just a 10 step guide. It's actually a 20 page workbook that's completely interactive, you'll be walked right through the steps to be able to create an amazing book that will attract your perfect clients into your business and change your business forever. So it's easy to follow. It's got space to write in your answers. So if you'd like to do work online, you can do it on you know, follow along on a Word document or or an Excel document. Or you can go ahead and print it out and grab a pen and paper. That's my preferred method. But either way, it's a step by step guide where I'm going to teach you exactly how to create the perfect book with your perfect client in mind so that you can make that difference in their lives and share your expertise with the world. So I'm happy to give that to anyone who's listening or watching.

Chuck Anderson:

Thank you. Thank you. So Kim, amazing. Thank you so much for your time and your advice and your energy. I love it. If you were to leave our listeners with just one final piece of advice, Word of Wisdom, what would you say to them?

Kimberley Day:

Well, I'm a huge big believer in taking massive imperfect action. So you know, it's time to start yesterday it was the best day to do it today is the is the next best day to do it. And, you know, final words of wisdom is you can always edit a bad page. But you can never edit a blank page. So it's time to start, get writing and get your book out of your head and into the hands of your perfect clients.

Chuck Anderson:

Love it. Great words, to end this episode by Kim, thank you and to our listeners, thank you as well. And I highly recommend that you go and connect with Kim, download that workbook that she has so graciously gifted us and get to work, and then reach out to her and get some help get your book published in 90 days or less. That is an amazing, amazing, amazing proposition. So in the meantime, never give up on your big dream keep moving forward in the pursuit of your big vision because the world really needs it. And we're all waiting for you to get your message out there. And so Kim, thank you and to our listeners. Thank you and we'll see you on the next one.
